Does this trade remind anyone of George McGwire made sending a first round pick (housley or barraso) to the Sabres (Scotty Bowman) for Jerry "king kong" Korab? Korab play 3 or so seasons for us, but man, that turned out to be a baddddd trade =)

But hey, Dean won us the cup last season, so he can do no wrong now

No it doesn't remind anyone of that trade. Dean saw a weakness and filled it. End of story. No remember this, remember that. An area that had to be filled, that's all.

Regehr certainly won't be facing top QoC here.

This is his actual scouting report summations:

Assets
Is at his best when he goes one-on-one against top forwards, since he can shut the best down with intimidation and poise. Has an accurate point shot, great size, sound hockey sense, decent mobility and an exemplary work ethic.

Flaws
Doesn't put up significant offensive numbers. Is a little bit too hesitant with the puck on his stick, since he's not a natural stick-handler. Can be guilty of being a little too aggressive at times.

Career Potential
Veteran physical shutdown defenseman.

I think Amart gets moved for a winger in a couple of days. Sutter and co seem to really like Ellerby.

Muzzin-Doughty
Scuderi-Voynov
Regehr-Ellerby
Drewiske

Then next season...

Muzzin-Doughty
Voynov-Mitchell
Greene-Regehr/Ellerby
UFA
A Mart + Penner to the Devils for Clarkeson + pick

This may be an overpayment, but I can see AMart headed that way. I threw in Penner for ***** and giggles.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but how brainy is this guy to begin with? I mean, who insists to have a NTC with Buffalo?

Probably doesn't want to be one of those dopes who winds up having to play for 7 or 8 teams. Which does bode well for re-signing him if DL is into that.

Haha!

I'm pretty sure it was for family purposes, no? To make sure he wasn't bouncing all over the earth at 30+ yrs old

When Greene comes back, everything will be money. I miss Hawk.

Scouting report seems somewhat dated.

Lol. Who's judging??? I'm going by the games in which I've seen him play this year.

no doubt but playing with a contender and a leaving that terrible team will lead to improvement...imo the guy is a badder, meaner matt greene and thats what we've been missing....

i can't really blame the guy for the poor play, a losing team takes a toll on morale and a losing mentality sets in. therefore i think we see a better regher, but yeah the only thats changed from that scouting report is he's old and lost a step but everything else is accurate. i can't complain cuz i really like the move.

Believe it or not, those are my thoughts as well.

This trade has caused playing time problems on my NHL 13 roster (which is accurate to the real team)

I like the trade. Fills the void. And if Greene AND Mitchell get healthy. Then we're gonna have the same good problems that my NHL 13 team has. :yo:

Send your congratulations after the back-to-back ;)
I'm pulling for you guys!

He had the NTC in his deal signed with Calgary. It carried over when he was traded to Buffalo with Kotakik for Butler and Byron. He waived the NTC to come to Buffalo. Buffalo didn't sign him and give him the clause. Just to clear that up. Nice Buffalo jab, though! Nothing we aren't used to. City of losers :( :(

Dean loves grit. He just got a TON of grit!

I don't mean to push your buttons, but the reality is, the grit is far from what it used to be. That was definitely one of the more disappointing things about his tenure in Buffalo.

Granted, playing on the Sabres can make any tough player morph into pansy-status, but he didn't do a ton of hitting or fighting compared to what I saw in Calgary.

He's also a bit too slow to find the monster checks he was finding earlier in his career.

You guys will like him, just don't expect a game changer.

You don't have to be fast to be able to clear out the crease. That's where we miss Greene the most.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I'm hoping a change of scenery and reuniting him with his old coach and the drive for the stanley cup will reignite his fire.

also i dont like the fact that opponents are able to just walk up to quick and control the crease we needed someone to push those punks back and clear Quicks sightlines

not at all. But again... The overall nastiness wasn't there for us. But... Would you want to clear the crease for a goalie who chews you out if you're on the ice for a goal against ?! :sarcasm:... #hatemiller

I really hope so. On top of liking Regehr as a person, I love love love watching the kings.

Just so you know, it was in jest. Was just through the Buffalo area in the summer, was nice. :)

Besides, we get enough grief here in southern California anyway. ;)

I don't think I've ever seen Quick or Bernier chew out a teammate. So it sounds like a great match.
