Should we get excited by this prospect? Gonna have 2 season of 100pts before turning pro. 6ft 175lbs is not that bad. Sucks I didn't get to see him at the WJC.
You might not have seen him at the WJC even had they taken Kidney on the team.

I agree. Nadeau helps. And Kidney is helping those guys to produce. Not always the other way around.
Kidney is on a team that allows him to use his strengths and hide his weaknesses. He’s making the most of it and that’s all you can ask.

It would be better for his development to work on some other stuff but that would not help his current team win.

He will almost surely be in Laval next year and he can work on that other stuff he needs to improve.

His post-trade production reminds me of Suzuki. Wouldn't it be something he somehow takes his game to top prospect level and has amazing playoffs.

The Production is nice to see but he will have to increase his strength like Suzuki did. Suzuki clearly worked on his lower body strength pre NHL and post NHL.

Kidney's hockey IQ is good IMO. He plays the game the right way for a center and it stands out in the Q but how that translates to the NHL has me wondering

B+ type prospect that could slip to B or he becomes a fringe grade A. We are going to know a lot more when he plays in the AHL next year.

Considering he is a late 2th round pick. I would say, we should be excited. On his pace, This guy would have been selected as a late first pick and this would still be encouraging.
If he is going to bulk up and increase his speed, to become a more all around player, this would be perfect.
In comparison, I am really more excited about this prospect over guys like Kapanen, Tuch, mysak and cie.

Riley Kidney is on fire right now in the QMJHL, but remains laser-focused on chasing the President's Cup and preparing himself for the pro game next season.

I really do like Kidney as a prospect. But if you think about the forward pipeline coming up and currently in the core.
Caufield-Suz-Slaf
Roy-Dach-Ferrell
(2023 1st pick)-(Dubois when signed)-Beck

And then
(possible 2nd 2023 pick in first) - Mesar -HarveyP - Simoneau - Guindon - (Eventually others in next couple years)

And that is not a depth chart just a projection of who will be a part of the core. I dont see Kidney being there. And I would love to take advantage of trading him at high value.

Not sure how much value he has unless he improves his skating.

And, if he does, look out. We may want to keep him...

Most of the time, prospects like Kidney don't have great trade value. It's better to keep him and see whether he improves and grows.

It's also too early. What if you trade him now with the B level prospect designation and he bulks up, improves his skating and is a modern day Ribeiro without being a f***ing asshole? It's possible he outgrows Beck, just too early to know for sure and it's not a situation where they have a round 1 pedigree like Poehling and we wait until he has no value.

I could be wrong but this kid's game gives me a bad feeling. The best way I can sum it up is that he doesn't really get involved. Every time I've seen him play he looks like a perimeter player. And I have to ask myself does that translate to the NHL? Sorry to say up until now the answer is no. Maybe the Habs development team can make adjustments to his game.

Kidney was drafted one those covid years. Imagine teams made a lot of mistakes why he slid. Smaller sample size

Eyes on the prize think he is working on his weaknesses this year. Better speed, more physical play, more driving to the center of the ice. We’ll see.

Kidney is a good B level prospect. One of those guys that you don't pencil into the lineup and don't wait up for, but in a few years, if things go right, he can be something. Maybe ahead of those players we used to pencil in.

And if not, o well, no biggie.

At this point, we just have to let him développe to his full potential, we have plenty of other players in the pipeline. In the Timmins era he would be the kind of player we consider as our only hope.
