Asking honestly. How hard is it to train to become a better skater?
It depends what the issue(s) with the skating are. Some of them are caused by physical limitations (like high center of gravity caused by body proportions), otherwise are muscle memory issues which can be hard to break.

But Kidney's problem was mostly speed caused by having twigs for legs. I don't think people here have seen Kidney current skating that much. He improved a lot since he was drafted.

Good to know. I had no idea but nice to hear he is improving his skating.

Seen him play 2 weeks ago vs Armada. 4 points (pass) but most were whatever secondary assists and not real plays, it felt like it could've been anyone else.

Not really incisive, not hard, feels like he's lucky to play with good players and the points come. It's odd... i was happy to see him play, then i was like 'jee, everyone seems to work harder'. Sure he had 4 points but... feels more like Drouin than Suzuki... we'll see. I still was happy to see him skate, big improvement for sure! He's fulling up too, that'll help.

Piques scored EIGHT goals in one period yesterday. Team record, apparently, which is shocking to me. The Burns era had a dynastic roster that scored at will.

He’s not playing with world beaters. Even Zach Dean isn’t a world beater. I saw them play in Gat and they work hard for sure. But their forwards couldn’t score on a soccer net before the trade deadline.

The pair that drives plays is Warren and Luneau. And the other D (can’t remember his name). Also, they had shitty goaltending before the trade deadline and this new guy they got changed everything. They can cheat like crazy now.

Kidney will never drive the net. But he’s got such IQ that he sees plays develop and knows who will provide a good scoring chance. It’s clicking like crazy right now and that’s great for us Piques fans. And Habs fans should be happy about that.

Don't forget they also added Olivier Nadeau around the same time they acquired Kidney. Nadeau played with Mavrik Bourque and Xavier Bourgault in Shawinigan in the last two years. He has 10 goals in 13 games since coming back from an injury that prevented him to play with Gatineau before that this season. Good players need to play with good players to produce at a high pace. Hockey is a team sport. If you want to remove secondary assists from the stats, OK, do that for every players in every league.

So Kidney turns 20 in March and already has a NHL contract - is he pretty much guaranteed to play in the AHL or at worst the ECHL next season? Any benefits to returning to Gatineau to play as an over-ager?

He's currently 6th overall in points in the Q

He'll turn pro for sure IMO.

He'll start in Laval and go from there.

Are there any Over-agers in the CHL with NHL contracts? or are they mostly prospects not good enough for the AHL trying to earn a contract

I agree. Nadeau helps. And Kidney is helping those guys to produce. Not always the other way around.

Gatineau has a very good team now with all the additions they made up front and in the net. But they also have a solid D-corp. Too bad, Habs selected Mesar instead of Beck in the first round. They could have had the opportunity to grab Luneau in the 2nd.

Should we get excited by this prospect? Gonna have 2 season of 100pts before turning pro. 6ft 175lbs is not that bad. Sucks I didn't get to see him at the WJC.
