My honest reaction to Celebrini scoring 2 goals and Sharks losing so we stay in contention for a guaranteed top 3 pick. Well, my sister's and Banana Shark girl but close enough. It really is so exciting to watch Celebrini win or lose.

Sobered up and now I can put my thoughts objectively. We are definitely out skilled on paper but Walman being out is such a huge deal. Ferraro and Rutta had awful games. Again. Neither affects play positively. Eklund had a mediocre game and with Mack back I really think we need to move down Granlund and move up Eklund. Second line isn't doing anything because as much as I like Wenny, he isn't 2C caliber. Wlite 3C though. Celebrini almost willed us to a possible comeback and he's so gosh darned special. Smith has his ups and downs but we are getting to a point where he is now actively hampered by his line mates and he needs help.

Biggest sticking point to me is how awful Ferraro has been playing. 3-4 years of shot blocking might have damaged him permanently as he looks so slow out there. Mukh should be up here and Walman HAS to be healthy otherwise this team just gets hemmed in again.

From my view, focusing on the physicality, he’s certainly more physical than the Toronto fans let on. He’s not a Bieksa kind of physical but he can take and will throw a hit that I thought he didn’t have. Good stuff.

How'd Liljegren look?

He brings a smile to my face every time he's on the ice. I always think he's 38 out there and I'm often shocked like wow Mario you're improving! And then he gets off for a line change and the real 38 pops on and my smile disappears.

Oh yea he needs to aim his shots better. Aim for rebounds and stuff. So far everything is right into the chest of goalies. At least they're not high and wide shots though. I love him so far.

I personally think he's as advertised. He's at best a middle pair defenseman with no huge glaring issues but no huge spikes. Sometimes he makes a decent to good play, sometimes a minor to major error, but mostly just takes up his role. And that's a major improvement for our D!

He's an NHL caliber D man, which is in short supply over here

I have no complaints from our perspective, I understand why he was frustrating to a fanbase with aspirations of contention as he lacks physicality and isn't consistent off the puck in his own zone, but on a team like the Sharks he's at worst our 2nd best puck mover on the backend and can actually push play through the neutral zone with confidence, I'm very happy with the acquisition

They should consider putting Smith with Sturm and Dellandrea and see how they click. Goodrow and Kunin just don't do much to compliment Smith.

But Sturm and Dellandrea might?
By comparison, I think so. I'm not saying they're going to be great odds in the positive but if Goodrow-Smith-Kunin is a 1% chance to work out, Sturm-Smith-Dellandrea probably has like a 5% chance of working out. They're a quicker trio, a smarter trio, and a more versatile trio based on their skills, imo. They won't be great scorers or anything but they seem like a better attempt at helping Smith along to me.

Can we now put to rest, once and for all, the idea that Mario Ferraro is a helpless victim of the circumstances, rather than just a horrible hockey player? Liljegren and Walman were castoffs on other teams who we acquired for peanuts, they were forced into big roles with this team, and they both immediately look miles better than Ferraro has at any point since his rookie year.

Maybe he would be better on a different team. Hockey players are weird like that. But based on his play here, he should not have any trade value, and we should move him ASAP if GMs haven't caught on to that yet.

I would like to play Ferraro with Liljegren just to see if having a legitimately effective puck mover can make Ferraro look at least good enough to get trade value in return.

Even people who like Mario based on vibes should be out on him after last game, he had such horrible and dejected body language all game

Sure, it can't be easy to realize how bad you're letting your team down actively and in the moment, but if you're supposed to be a leader on the team it's also your responsibility to project strength and confidence to help boost the rest of the club, instead a kid 8 years younger than him playing his 3rd career game is the one leading the charge and refusing to give up on the team when things look dire, Mario is an absolute husk out there

I'm at the point where I really want him to get traded for his own sake. Really like him as a dude and want him to succeed, but that's definitely not happening here.

I always thought Ferraro-Liljegren would be a pretty fair trade straight across, but if we managed to get a late 3rd for Mario at this point I would pull the trigger so fast your head would spin.

I would pull the trigger on a bag of half eaten peanuts, just get him off the team.

It's hard to imagine a deal being out there for him anytime soon though. He hasn't been playing well and he's expensive with an extra year for where he probably should slot on a good team. And since the team is treating him like they treat Kunin where they pump his tires regardless, I don't see them making any move on Ferraro. But if they could swap Rutta for an expiring minor leaguer, that'd be great.
