At this point, we just have to let him développe to his full potential, we have plenty of other players in the pipeline. In the Timmins era he would be the kind of player we consider as our only hope.

I agree as far as the forward prospects were concerned. But not about the D prospects in general during the Timmins era.

And it was the end of the Timmins era that drafted Caufield, Roy, Farrell, RHP, etc... and ok'd the trade for Suzuki - all of who are ahead of Kidney...

Very good article about Kidney, his coach compares him to Ribeiro and Fleishman. I was really surprised by Kidneys responses, he seems to have very high confidence. I thought he was more of the quiet humble kind since he looks like he's 12 years old. I really like it.

Best part is he plans on working out this summer at the Canadiens facilities.. will have a lot of time with Adam Nicholas, that skating could see a dramatic uptick.

He's one prospect you rarely see in future line combos with the Habs and not much fanfare but he's really lighting it up and has been for sometime. I think he's a sleeper in the organization and hopefully uses this lack of hype around him as fuel to make it in the NHL if he can get his skating to the next level.

I love sleepers. They constantly over achieve until you realise that you overlooked them and that they are the real deal.

I remember Plekanec being a bit similas as a sleeper behind all the hype of Ribeiro, Hossa, Ward, Perezhogin, Balej, Higgins, Kostitsyn, etc.

Heck even Duncan Milroy had more hype.

He always delivered even when people started labelling him only as a 4th line forward.

I think both Kidney and Kapanen get underrated because they were Timmins picks, so people don't want to get too hyped up on them given Timmins' terrible history with drafting centres.

Kidney could very end up another Ben Maxwell and Kapanen might end up another Joonas Nattinen, but it would be nice to see even one of them surprise us and be a quality NHLer since they get overlooked in our prospect pool.

I don't think he's underrated per se, it's just that he may be that farthest away from the NHL so people are more conservative. He really, really, really needs to bulk up. He gets pushed around way too easily. Now of course he's never going to be a physical beast, but he's just too weak. He may need 2-3 years to get stronger in the AHL while other prospects may be ready sooner.

Of course this is all hypothetical, we'll see once he makes the jump to Laval, but I'm fully expecting a long process with him.

Was at the Piques game tonight. First time I see Kidney in person. And Rorher for that matter.

As a side note, if Ottawa is 4th in the country, the OHL is weak AF this season. Oh my…

Anyway, Kidney was not very efficient in the first, not involved at all. I found him weak on the puck. Then, the 2nd happened. And Kidney shifted gears. His breakaway goal was all about reading the play. Cormier (I believe) fed him a great two line pass from left to right, and Kidney cut like a pro. Took his own rebound in an empty net.

After that, Ottawa couldn’t contain him at all. He also leveled two 67’s to his own surprise! That was pretty funny. 67’s tried to disrupt him with late hits, etc. Didn’t phase him.

Nadeau had a strong game around the net. Not the best reads all the time, but he meshes well with Kidney. He does the dirty work.

All in all, I see the potential in Kidney. He’s got the brains for sure. Needs to gain strength ( not necessarily a lot of weight), and get more explosive ( but he is not slow). He got into the dirty areas. He wasn’t shy at all. I do believe there is potential there.

Rohrer, on the other hand, did not impress me one bit. Who dis guy???

The guy that impressed me the most on the Piques side was…Luneau. OMFG, he skates effortlessly, and like the wind. He CONTROLS the play when he’s on the ice. His sidekick, Boutin, is just lucky to be playing with him. Wow. Floored by his poise and sheer dominance with the puck. Will never be a point producer, but he will make the big show my his skating alone. Wow. Ottawa had no answer to his puck possession in the O-zone.

Seriously, and I know some here find him vanilla, but I want this guy. Really do. Playing the right side, he was heads and shoulder above all D-guys on both sides tonight.

Warren is a tower out there, but is mostly a shut down guy. They have Luneau on one pair and Warren on the other. Opposition had to wait until the third pair got on to muster some offensive pushes.

Fun game to attend. Ottawa is NOT a top Canadian team. It would have finished 8-1 if not for their goalie, who faced 3-4 breakaways and a shitload of in close chances. Wow.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Kidney will become with time with Nichols and the development staff.
He's already getting "time" with the development staff. He mentioned in and interview that Nicholas send him videos of his game with things to improve/fix and things he does well.

Yes, and hopefully he'll still continue to get better.
