Best Ice Cream?

Honestly, I think I’ve tried them all and Dairy Queen is tops imo. The new Syrian place on Osbourne, Chaeban, is really good too though, much more unique. Dutch Maid in Osbourne used to be my go to back in the day.
I have a long love affair with Ice Cream, dating back to my days as a Dickie Dee driver. Nothing more fun than heading to Assiniboine Park to snipe sales and having the park police chase you away over the foot bridge to Portage Ave, good times.

My wife is on the way to 7-11 right now to fetch slurpees in -22. She’s from Korea, but I think she just truly became a Winnipegger since it was her idea.

Speaking of slurpees/slushies, the best one in the city is from Flying Squirrel Trampoline by Costco. I was shocked by how good it was and the dude filled the plastic dome lid right to the top. Amazed I was!

Speaking of 7-11, they also have a REALLY good apple fritter. Everything else they serve that’s baked is pretty terrible - but not these.

Speaking of good restos in Winnipeg, I like ‘Close Co’ on Stafford. It’s tiny (very, very tiny) and doesn’t take reservations so if you ever get a table there consider yourself lucky. The food is perfect.

Now why would you spread around that best kept secret?!? I'm definitely blaming you if they're out of them the next time I go for one!!!

My go to. I can't even tell you why I love that place.

I spent my first warm day in Winnipeg last year since 1997, early September for the Banjo Bowl. I took some friends to BDI and we had an ice cream and walked over the bridge on foot. It was a beautiful day, and, a gorgeous scene. I forgot how truly wonderful Winnipeg is in the summer and it was probably my favourite part of the trip. God I'm so home sick, I can't wait for July.

Great thread.

Superboys over VJs
Wall Street Slice for thin crust pizza (order some O.G. And/or Hot 'n Honey.)
DJays #2 pizza, order it 'well done' or not at all.
Cafe Dario, Marion St Eatery are great for lunch.
Vientenne (Laotian) on Marion
Balissimo on Waverley is excellent Italian

Chains suck.

Went with the extended family to BDI. Sister-in-law had a meltdown, saying she wouldn't ever stand in line to just get ice cream. Embarrassing - people were staring. She refused to get anything but sampled my brothers and said it was ok. Nephews liked it, so was win-win.

Who remembers Sev burgers? When I was really high, I was known to partake. Honestly, I’m not sure how I’m still alive.

Ohhh you mean the ones that came in those plastic bags 30 year ago, you would heat them up and the bun got hard as a rock, but you could slap on a bunch of tomatoes and lettuce and condiments and they were almost edible? Loved those

So good, they used the best Italian crusty loaves, which yes if you heated them up turned to stone, lol. A good, true hoagie is missing in this city.

Speaking of 7-11 food, does anyone remember when they had pizza torpedoes? Damn I miss those, I think in the summer of '98 I probably paid the wages of one employee of the Corydon and Arbuthnot location by buying so many of them
