1 in 10 sexual assaults reported to Police in Canada result in a conviction:

From arrest to conviction: Court case outcomes of police-reported sexual assaults in Canada, 2009 to 2014

I thought it was widely known that only a fraction of actual sexual assaults are reported to Police, so the ratio of actual sexual assaults to convictions is likely 100:1. For male victims the number is far higher, given society's attitude to male victims of sexual assault.

I haven’t seen any study that shows evidence of that, nor would I think that would be possible to know how many cases go unreported, since they were, ya know, unreported.

I can't fathom how you made this post with a straight face.

Do you realize that people can do studies after things have happened? They do it by asking them questions. They base it on a particular sample size, and once a sample size is big enough, the data can be extrapolated to the entire population with pretty good accuracy. The Department of Justice has the statistics.

About 70% of sex crimes go unreported. This site gets their stats from the DOJ.

You should use Google before making such a stupid f***ing post like this again. You not seeing the studies doesn't mean the don't exist, even if they aren't, you know, reported. What a brain-dead f***ing post. Jesus Christ.

I can tell you I haven’t seen a single study with enough of a data size to be relevant for that kind of wide extrapolation across the country. I googled, can’t find a good study. So please, link this study.

Unreported to police doesn't mean unreported to anyone. There's been numerous studies with survivors where the majority did not report to the police. Obviously it's impossible to get a firm number, but you can try to extrapolate figures over the general population. In Canada, the DOJ website lists the General Societal Survey in 2014 as suggesting 83% of assaults were not reported, and three studies done by the Justice Department where roughly 2/3 of the survivors didn't report.

Long time reader, first time poster here.

What a gutless play by Reid, I hope he never plays again

Thank you, this was eye opening.

There was a thread but some started defending the rapist of a 12 year old and that didn't go down well.
You're surprised about this here where many defend racists and demean women in various other threads.

Really, are you surprised? I'm not. I've seen what gets protected here by some that always get away with comments like that.

Yup, once you've been around long enough it becomes pretty clear and no longer surprising. Not sure if they were surprised, so much as describing the thread, though.

And you then realize it digs deeper than the posters, it goes higher up. Which is why so much gets passed through and so many are allowed to stay as long as they have.

As for Reid, it's amazing that the amount of other cases that have been discussed and are on going, there isn't a harsher punishment for him. Did he even get released by his KHL team yet?

Yeah we should pay for child rapists to live for decades good idea

Killing someone is the US justice system actually cost more money than imprisoning them for life on average because of court costs and death row costs. If you made it cheaper than there would be even more inncent people killed, and there is already a distubing number.

Judicial killings are expensive, ineffective and immoral. I would rather see rapists sit in jail rather then get the easy (death) way out.

Manages to get away scot-free for his actions. Even at the age the incident occurred a responsible young adult should know better. The victim will always suffer and more so given the leniency displayed to Boucher.

A bullet 5 mins after pleading guilty is actually quite cheap
