Could he go to the World Championships or will the Devils want to keep him around for depth?
Teams in the PO are extremely unwilling to let any player who can be remotely useless go so I'm 95% certain if the Devils are still in the PO at that point he stays with them. Even if he is 10th in the depth chart that's still not even close to deep enough for them to entertain the thought of letting him go. Canucks infamously used 11 Ds during their run to the Finals and there is the Stanley Cup on the line. Naturally, it's the situation where you take a "better safe than sorry" approach to the max.

Just say you don't watch Severson or have specific questions about the comparison. The reality is Severson is an everyday second pair defender who can both PK and QB a PP2. He's sturdy and mobile and can make excellent transition passes and play steady in his own end. If he wasn't prone to the odd glaring error he'd be a borderline first pairing defender. The good far outweighs the bad. If Nemec was a better than Severson level offensive player who didn't make one glaring error per 20 minutes he is easily a first pairing defender. That's hardly a disaster for Slovak hockey.

Excellent post. Defensively better Severson is pretty much spot on the player Nemec should aim to be. He isn't a dazzling offensive talent nor his physical tools are especially imposing so I fail to see what are aspects he is supposed to outmatch Severson so badly in.

That would absolutely suck for Slovak hockey if all he became was a better version of Damon severson. Not just suck, probably border line disaster.
Severson is good, bro. And there’s a lot of range in “better than severson” that I think would be great outcomes.

But even beyond that, I was talking about deployment more than anything. Thanks for reading, though.

Of course he's not. The above poster is simply jealous of the quality of Slovak hockey players & puts them down in every thread he can locate on HFBoards.
Your obsession with this "jealousness" is unhealthy, especially when I barely commented on something that was already being discussed in the thread and it didn't include any "putting down" at all. All while you are the one running around shouting this nonsense at me for having fairly objective opinions.

How is Regenda doing by the way? Or Hrivik? Or Cehlarik? Or are they all not as good as you say they are just because I hate them (for reasons that only you can up with)?

He's a much smarter, more composed player. Severson is a terrible stylistic comp for Nemec.

He'll be closer to a poor man's Josi. Not as dynamic offensively, but probably better in his own end. Maybe a touch of Adam Larsson as well.

I haven't watched him outside international tournaments but he honestly reminded me of Tomas Kaberle or Lubomir Visnovsky. Cool as a cuccumber, throws haymakers instead of just making the "simple play". Fluid skater.

I don't really see Severson at all either. I watched Larsson live at the WJC at the same age, I think Nemec's offensive game is a little more natural and will translate better.

Pretty stoked to see what he can do on a team like NJ has built. He'll never be the #1PP guy with Douggie and Luke there, but I think he will be sneaky good at producing.

I don´t understand your meaning of disaster for slovak hockey, when you have barely any players in nhl. If he is another Severson who is borderline 1st pair D, you are going to be much better with D core than czechs, which is not saying much, but still. I would take mobile D who is great in his own end over Hughes, Carlsson like player. He is going to be great in pair with L Hughes who is offensively better but is shit in defense.

Kaberle is a good comp.

It's way too early for me to settle on a style for Nemec. Frankly, the guy in the best position to do so only comments sparingly and the picture he paints is blurry to some extent. His recent commentary suggests that pre-WJC Nemec was playing relatively conservatively. Post WJC he is gambling much more and getting offensive results but at the expense of his defense. That said, in the WJC he looked a bit to me like a more mobile Hamilton offensively. Incredibly calm and poised. Can get his shot through from distance. Can make all the passes. He was also showing more promise in his own end than Hamilton who is a bit flat footed at times. I'm not seeing Larsson though.

Talking to the mirror, eh? Please focus on Liliputania instead, hockey just ain't for you.
Sick burn. Imagine feeling the need to use cringe insults about one's country because you can't handle the truth that 8th or 9th hockey country isn't actually all that amazing. And again, this has nothing to do with Nemec about whom I have never said a single bad or even as much as pessimistic word.

Im Slovak and I don't think that you are jealous or hater of our players. Some people are way too sensitive here. Anyway, I wouldn't mention Regenda. He's playing very well, points are just bonus in his case. I still believe that he will be solid 3rd line player in the NHL.

Well, the big discussion when he signed his contract was that I said he will probably need time in the AHL because it's really difficult to make the jump from Slovak league to the NHL. Which prompted the hater acquisations once again because shortly after "Regenda - dark horse for Calder trophy" thread was created. So at this point I feel it's safe to say my perspective was closer to the truth. Overall, I never said he sucked and praised the signing for the Ducks and I do agree he might eventually become a solid NHL player, just like I did before the season.

If Nemec can be as impactful against top competiton as Severson is against weaker, he'll be a beast of a player. don't even need to be a amazing point producer
