Are these eye popping for an 18 year old though ?
In terms of just pure points not really.

Not many 18 year olds play in the AHL so theres not a whole lot of comparables.

Jiricek obviously is having a better offensive season this year (21 points in 26 games).

Sandin had 28 points in 44 games as an 18 year old, Liljegren had 17 in 44 at 18. Honka had 31 in 68.

Both Nemec and Jiricek needed something of a reset after the WJC. Both have slowed in their last seven games (Jiricek 1 point and minus 5 and Nemec 2 points and a minus one). Hopefully they get a break around the AHL Allstar game? They are teenagers and are still developing physically.

For those arguing about offensive numbers I may be wrong but Wasn’t nemec always seen as more of a well rounded type? I thought the scouting profile was like will be a 2-3 who gets 30pts and maybe 2nd pp time

Yes he was never really heavy one way or the other, maybe 55-45 O to D ratio.

He's not going to be a dynamic defenseman, but I think he has a decent chance of becoming a #1 defenseman in the mold of a Miro Heiskanen but I'm probably higher on him than others. But his ceiling is absolutely a #1.

Too bad he's playing in a third-world country league where you can't see how much time he spends on the ice and in what situations.

Could he go to the World Championships or will the Devils want to keep him around for depth?

They currently have Bahl and Smith rotating as 7th D. And Luke Hughes will be joining as soon as Michigan’s season is over. I doubt they wouldn’t let him go to the WC if he wanted to.

Would love to see him in the Worlds, I got tickets to a couple of SVK games already

Nemec wasn’t drafted to carry the Devils production from the blue line. We have Hamilton and Luke for that . I see Nemecs role as a excellent skatimg Dman that plays a poised game and can transport / transition the puck quic and efficiently.
Retrieve the pick in his D zone and beat heavy forechecks , and smartly distribute the puck in the O zone.
If he ends up close to Heiskanen level player… Devils will be dominant for years.

Yeah, I think the dream/most likely deployment (in the short term, next couple years) is to have him be a rich man's Severson (which I mean as a complement, I love Sevs). Carry whoever our worst defenseman is 5on5, be on the 2nd PK unit, be a PP fill in for Dougie or Luke if necessary, and just be a steadying possession force. Hopefully without the incredibly boneheaded plays Severson makes twice a week.

I still think Nemec has the potential to be a steady #1 d-man, but on the Devils that may not be necessary. Think he got underrated defensively because of his stature, his playstyle and his statistics in the Slovak league, but I could easily see him being an Andrei Markov type presence on the Devils' blueline, not flashy but very effective.

That would absolutely suck for Slovak hockey if all he became was a better version of Damon severson. Not just suck, probably border line disaster.
Just say you don't watch Severson or have specific questions about the comparison. The reality is Severson is an everyday second pair defender who can both PK and QB a PP2. He's sturdy and mobile and can make excellent transition passes and play steady in his own end. If he wasn't prone to the odd glaring error he'd be a borderline first pairing defender. The good far outweighs the bad. If Nemec was a better than Severson level offensive player who didn't make one glaring error per 20 minutes he is easily a first pairing defender. That's hardly a disaster for Slovak hockey.
