I say the Larry Robinson comparison is pretty accurate or even Pronger without the nastiness.

As far as the Blake comparison goes, I see Jacob Trouba as more of a Rob Blake due to his in your face aggressiveness.

So....not Shea Weber? He doesn't have his shot either and Jones is more offensive minded.

I don't think anyone really compares to Jones directly. Parts of his game you can compare, but as a whole he has a rare combination of size, skill, and speed that hasn't been seen in quite some time.

This best I was thinking was Rob Blake as close, but I just think Jones is really special. He has a lot of different parts of elite players, if he busts I will eat a lot of crow, but I just don't see anyway it happens barring injury.

I think Jones is going to be a little more physical in the NHL than a lot of other people think.

Is jones generational talent the same way Sid was?

Don't you mean is?

I think it's to early to start hyping him up as a generational talent... I think a solid number 1D for sure... Maybe a franchise cornerstone? Both being very high praise for a kid who hasn't been drafted yet.

No. Nathan Mackinnon isn't being labeled as a generational talent and many people have him above Seth Jones. If Jones was a generational talent, he'd be a lock for #1 by pretty much everyone, no?

He is so good. ive seen him play many times live and it's unbelievable. When I watch other players that are possible 1st rounders, they have nothing on Jones. Jones makes the other high picks look like they should be like 4-5th rounders. If a team doesn't take him 1st overall, it will be a GIANT mistake for years. He does everything imaginable right while on the ice. Everything from positional play to joining the rush to defensive zone coverage to quarterbacking the PP, he does top notch. I am so glad I was able to see him play many times in junior because this will be his only season playing in the WHL. Soon to be excelling in the NHL next year. Oh ya and not to mention his dad was 6'8 and 250 lbs, so he will most likely get bigger than his already 6'3 200 lbs frame.

So answering your opening question.... Absolutely, without a doubt

I think another year in the WHL will serve him good. I think being a 1D in the nhl to be asked to play PP and PK will be to much for an 18 year old.

Crosby was guarenteed to become a generational talent. Seth Jones merely has the potential.

How many generational talent defensemen have we had since 1990? I can only think of three, two of whom reached their potential. Chris Pronger, Niklas Lidstrom, and Brian Fogarty. Jones has the talent that he has the potential to be a generational player, he is a generational talent.

Almost every single professional scouting list has Jones over MacKinnon. Some fans have him over Jones, but the vast majority of scouting lists don't.

This topic will be a huge debate... alot of people that havent seen him live, and maybe mostly follow OHL and/or QMJHL will probably say "NO" mostly because they havent seen him live and mostly just read about him on the internet or have seen him on TV(kind of like how I am with McKinnon). I havent seen McKinnon play live and from what ive read and seen on TV, he is everyones choice in the OHL and Q for that #1 spot. I strongly think that #1 choice in the NHL Draft will come down to that NHL teams need. Trust me though, and I think alot of people that live in Western Canada and have seen him play, would agree with me that he is an unbelievable talent and I will be glued to my TV on draft day for who goes #1.

He has the potential to be.

The only player in the next few years even comparable to Crosby's level is McDavid.

Perhaps it's because I'm not a scouting expert, prospect guru or all around hockey genius but I am not even sure what is meant by 'generational' talent. It seems to be used pretty commonly around here which kind of defeats the purpose of the term doesn't it?

I have heard people say Jones' upside is something along the lines of Pronger. Obviously a great player, but generational? Throughout much of his career considered the undisputed best player? Record setter? Changed the way the game was played?

agreed.

i wouldn't consider pronger generational.

generational to me?

Crosby

Gretsky

Orr

Depends on what you describe as "generational"....IMO Crosby is the Only generationaly talent in the NHL....

I wouldnt even call Malkin,Stamkos,or Ovi Generational...

Pump the brakes.

As of now, it doesn't look like it, but you never know. Datsyuk wasn't thought of as much when he was drafted.
