I think he'll be a #1D, without a doubt. The question for me is whether he'll be a elite, good, solid or borderline #1 guy. For comparison, he has a very similar skill-set and plays a similar game as Victor Hedman. Both are magnificent skaters, especially for their size, can move the puck and like to join rushes/carry the puck up the ice themselves, have hard slappers and are good in their own end but but don't like to hit that often.

I remember sitting in the first row of a preseason game and thinking wow is he a phenomenon skater. The total package he will be a top 10 dman in the league. Although I don't think he will ever be considered a top shutdown guy he will be more of an offensive dman.

Don't see him growing and developing behind Weber as much as he could, sort of like Pietrangelo's needing EJ's slot to develop.

I disagree. Jones should benefit from being able to focus more on his own game knowing that Weber and Josi are holding it down on the top pairing. He also gets to develop his offensive game under Housley and Laviolette, which ought to be a treat to watch.

Now, in four or five seasons when he is getting close to entering his prime he may be hampered if he has to play behind Weber, but by then Weber will be getting into his mid-30s and having Jones to eat minutes could be beneficial for both.

I'm still not sure why Jones is often compared to Pronger...

Almost any big dman with some offense seems to be compared to Pronger anymore.

I think Jones is a really good bet (wouldn't say sure bet) to end up as a #1 dman. Probably top 5 PMD in his prime, and while he'll never be physical since I just don't think he has that mean streak to his personality he could end up being at the very worst a top pairing worthy guy defensively as well.

Top pair d man from what I saw. Has all the tools and was playing 25+ minutes a night already.

He did step into the hole left by Josi after Josi had his clock cleaned by Downie, but that was only for ten games and, as is proven by looking at QualComp, Trotz was protecting that pairing. He was giving some of the tougher minutes to Klein's pair to keep some pressure off of Weber and Jones.

He will be a top pairing defender, but he has a long way to go to consistently be one. It'll probably be a few more seasons until that happens.

I think he's more like a giant Niedermayer than Pronger. Pronger, even as a junior, played with a viciousness I haven't really seen combined with the overall package of skills.

Jones relies more on smarts and hockey IQ defensively. He's not a big hitter, he's not out there to punish people...but his real value comes in with his incredible skating, hands, and ability to read the play\put the puck in impossible places.

His offensive abilities will rival Subban, but he will play norris calibre defence.

I am thinking he could be Neidermayer good.

Personally I think he will be the next Pronger, but less physical.

I don't see this comparison. Pronger was a nasty piece of work, and he didn't have the hands or skating that Seth does. Neidermayer makes a lot of sense. Neids used to be a nasty player, who could skate, pass, stick handle and shoot as good as any D in the league.

Seth has a long, long way to go, but that is the ballpark for his upside.
