Before people bash EJ about his hockey sense, I'd please like to ask you to sit down and watch 3 Avs games and focus in on him and how he CARRIES the defense all by himself. I warn you however, watching 3 Avs games will probably make you fall asleep/die of laughter at how awful their system is.

Seth Jones reminds me a lot of Tyler Myers. Can skate, great hands, great passer and more of a passer when it comes to the power play but still has that booming shot. Good in his own zone but not great. Can make the great first pass and those tape to tape lead passes, and he can skate with the best of them.

Underrating Jones in his own end. How many points did RNH have in the WJC semifinal game? That's an NHL 1st Line Center.

Chris Pronger. Big tall lanky defenseman giving them a unique skill set. Rare to see a guy as big as Jones with his speed and offensive abilities and not look out of place in the slightest.

He doesnt have the snarl that pronger had.... personally I dont see any bang on comparisons for him (although out of the one I see on here Rob Blake seems most similar to me).

I think he has a unique enough package to make a name for himself and years from now we will try to compare someone as the "next seth jones"

I watched Avs games, I don't think he is a star player yet, but the talent is there. He was constantly getting burned by Hall in the first Oilers-Avs game I saw. He seems like he is similar to JBouwmeester.

I think saying EJ is his upside is setting vastly low expectations on a stud like Jones. I agree with the Pietrangelo comparison.

If that means he's Pronger without the high amount of Penalties drawn and selfish attitude (traded 5 times in his career) then I'd say that's a plus.

I'd like you to watch more Non-Avs games to see what a defenseman with IQ actually looks like.

That bit sounds like a young(ish) Bouwmeester.

Nice name drop. More physical than Bouwmeester like others have said and I think he'll fill out a little more than JBo down the line. I just started getting into the draft when JBo came into the league in 2002, but he came with a lot of hype himself. I like Jones' chances of putting it all together a little more however (hindsight of course). He's got that 'it' factor about his game. As an American, I couldn't help but feel a sense of security anytime he was on the ice at the WJCs. As sound as an 18 year old can be.

Haha Hall wishes he could burn EJ. He can't even do it with a complete liability as EJ's partner.

He reminds me a bit of Rob Blake. Big defenseman that can skate and has a booming shot from the point. He's also a very physical player, much like Blake was, and is also a very efficient defenseman in terms of working in his own zone.

I'm not really big on comps since each player is unique but he reminds me with the presence of a mid 70's Larry Robinson, although with better offensive talents and might have a career in the middle of Blake and Robinson when it comes to overall value.

We will have a better idea in 20 years but he is the most exciting D prospect to come along in a very very long time.

Disagree EJ doesn't have low hockey IQ, he is playing with R.Wilson who is not a top 2 defensemen and yet EJ makes him look rather good. People seem to forget how dominating EJ was, also he is 24 what do you mean "didn't pan out" he is still a #1 defensemen.

I hope you know, I'm a HUGE EJ fan. I'm rooting for him to keep on developing and I love watching him play.

At the same time, his only real flaw is hockey IQ (and I guess offensive creativity). That's not to say that his hockey IQ is bad. It's still above average, but if he had elite hockey IQ there is nothing he wouldn't be capable of doing. That's Jones.

I like the Pietrangelo comparison as well. Remember, when he was drafted, Petro was more of an offensive guy who developed an elite defensive game in the NHL.

He burned him multiple times that game. I remember. He's been on the ice for most GA by Avs d-men by a fair margin and has only 1 registered point. He is not as good as Avs fans make him out to be. Of course, I'll probably get a reply saying 'I don't watch him enough!!".

I don't buy that Jones is elite (at least not yet I am more pessimistic) EJ looked very elite before the nhl not saying he looks bad now but it didn't translate quiet as well as once thought which is where I think Jones will end up.

I like the Pietrangelo comparison as well though I think Pietrangelo will end up being slightly better when all is said and done due to the fact that Pietrangelo probably has a higher hockey IQ.

lol cant believe people are comparing Erik johnson to seth jones. johnson was the biggest busts in nhl history next to Stepan and Dipietro

Rob Blake comparison is the best from what I've seen.

What do the more experienced fans say about Larry Robinson as a comparison?

Rob Blake.

Unless he gets drafted by the Oilers, then his comparable will be come Aki Berg and he will be an instant bust.
