I hope you know, I'm a HUGE EJ fan. I'm rooting for him to keep on developing and I love watching him play.

At the same time, his only real flaw is hockey IQ (and I guess offensive creativity). That's not to say that his hockey IQ is bad. It's still above average, but if he had elite hockey IQ there is nothing he wouldn't be capable of doing. That's Jones.

I like the Pietrangelo comparison as well. Remember, when he was drafted, Petro was more of an offensive guy who developed an elite defensive game in the NHL.

Defensively EJ is becoming an absolute rock, and he makes great breakout plays, but I agree with you on the offensive IQ. When he hits the opposing teams blue line, it's rare he makes an incredible play. He is good at just passing it off, or keeping it in the zone, and sometimes he will just deke around a few people and make a sweet pass, but for the most part he will stand there and then hammer a shot into a forward. This is partially because the Avs don't know how to create space for him, but if Jones is the same player as EJ from the red line back, but a hell of a lot better from the red line forward...Well then the Avs being bottom of the league just may be worth it.

I've seen people say we haven't seen a defender with this size, skill and skating in a long time, but what seperates him from Dougie? Dougie has all 3 of these.

who does Seth Jones compare to the most from current or past NHLers. i haven't really watched much of the guy play other then the world juniors , which i thought was the best player in the whole tournament by the way. ive heard guys said chris pronger and ive heard others say ray bourque. what u guy think?

Larry Robinson type but I haven't seen him play much. U18 + Top prospects Game. Defensemen can fool ya too. JayBo was once going to future great...he is a good d-man but no where near the accolades once projected of him. I'd put Jones with a Hedman...make NHL next year but don't expect anything big out of him for 3-4 years.

Have to agree with Erik Johnson with more offensive smarts.

Zubov? No chance. Blake, thats his upside.

O like the Bowmeester and Redden comparisons, JBo is such a good skater you always wonder why he isn't a superstar (answer, he hates physical contact), so lets hope Jones exceeds these 2 guys.

Don't know about a "better" Pietrangelo yet, but I do like this comparison.

I mean at the same age.

I think they play similar games, but I do think Jones is going to be a franchise defenceman as soon as he steps into the league.

The reason the Blake comparison doesn't fit is Blake was far more physical and an in your face type of player than Jones is. Jones is physical but he's not the type of guy to be in the middle of a scrum or string together a bunch of big hits in a row. It's why Pronger's a bad comparison. The closest prospect to Pronger/Blake right now is Aaron Ekblad.

He's got similar offensive upside to Zubov, and Zubov was an elite defender after he was traded to Dallas. He could be physical when he wanted to. That's Jones to a core, only difference is Jones is a a few inches taller.

Before people bash EJ about his hockey sense, I'd please like to ask you to sit down and watch 3 Avs games and focus in on him and how he CARRIES the defense all by himself. I warn you however, watching 3 Avs games will probably make you fall asleep/die of laughter at how awful their system is.

This hurts me, but I agree.

Seth Jones reminds me a lot of Tyler Myers. Can skate, great hands, great passer and more of a passer when it comes to the power play but still has that booming shot. Good in his own zone but not great. Can make the great first pass and those tape to tape lead passes, and he can skate with the best of them.

I agree with you. This is probably the best example. Obviously not that size however I saw him play RNH strongly and that's a legit NHL player.

Great Skater
Good IQ
Size
and a leader

Whoever gets him will not be disappointed.
