I think Dougie Hamilton will be a star for a number of years.

But, from what I've heard Seth Jones could be the number one pick.

Right now I'm taking Dougie Hamilton, but if Jones proves in his WHL season that hes the number one pick and an elite prospect, I'd have to take Jones. Dougie will be a star, but Jones could be more than that.

Haha oh lawd. You're taking Dougie over what scouts are saying is the best defense prospect in years. Hamilton is a blue chipper and will probably be a top pairing guy but Jones is on a different level. A franchise player and will probably challenge Mackinnon for first overall next year in a great draft. Jones is a guy I think will win multiple Norris trophies.

He never said anything bad about Jones, whats your point?

He gets all upset when someone mentions Dougie being good.

I even said in my post that Seth Jones could be MORE than what Dougie ends up being. Lol. I don't know what more I could say.

ITT Hamilton gets underrated. How people can be convinced that a guy that hasn't stepped foot into the CHL is a much better prospect than a 6'5 d-man that dominated the CHL is beyond me. If you think he's a better prospect, fine, but way better? C'mon, man.

If he proves to be the #1 pick every says he is, then i absolutely take Jones, no question. But like you said, why am I taking a "super prospect" who hasnt played a lick of the CHL before a potential franchise D man whos proven to be very successful? Makes no sense.

Let me highlight for those people who cant read well, Im taking Jones if he plays well this upcoming year.

Oh please, we don't need your one liners they get tiresome after a while. No one is talking about Kadri here. Hes also been known to compare Hamilton to Cody Franson, remember that gem?

I said Jones could be better than Hamilton but I want to see him PLAY in the WHL first. I also said "if he proves to be the number one pick then I take Jones." What do u want me to say?

Such butthurtedness over Hamilton, its embarrassing at this point.
Couldn't care less about Hamilton but you did call him a future star, right?

People said the same about Erik Johnson.

At this point, neither have done anything in the NHL to warrant "multiple Norris trophies" predictions. However, Hamilton is closer because he proved his worth in his draft year. Far too many times overhyped prospects have fallen from the top in their draft year (Joensuu and Latendresse are prime examples).

Have you never watched him during any U-18 events or anything? It's tough when a prospect isn't in the CHL for us people up in Canada, but I've still managed to see him play 5-10 times online.

Yeah, I saw him at the U18's tourny on TV. And I've seen a bunch of online highlight packages. Those viewings alone don't give me enough of a basis for definitively evaluating him, imo. Also, I'm most comfortable evaluating within the WHL framework at this point.

Leafs fan?

No, are you? What are you even trying to say? :shakehead

Yeah, and that's definitely fine. I can't wait to see how he plays this coming season.

I know the debat isn't there, but how can they have 3 years difference? Hamilton played is 3rd year of eligibility last year, Jones will play his third this year. Since Jones is late, I suppose it's a 1,5 years difference?

Yeah I guess the difference is 2 draft years and 1.5 years of actual age due to Jones being a late birthday.

Yeah, that's what I thinked, just wasn't sure. As for the actual debate, both look pretty good (Jones more constently tough) but both brings question mark right now. Jones play a complet game and he's been hyped for a while now, but he wouldn't be the first american D who's hype go down after leaving USNTDP. I think about Fowler who was downright too good in the U18 the year before his draft, his transition was harder than what I thinked it would have been at the time. Scout look at that year of transition, coming to the CHL isn't the safe thing for his draft status, he could rise sky high or drop at the end of the top 10 depending on his transition. I know he is awfully hype and amazingly good right now, but everything he did was against lower level of competition. Saying he's the next big thing comes with some risk.

As for Hamilton, the hype machine start being aweful too this year with those impressive stat he had combine with his frame and skating ability. Still come with a good level of risk to me. He isn't positionnally sound and he's running everywhere in his zone.

Jones level of play look better right now, but I would like to see him maintain that at the CHL level before I make a choice.

I don't know much about Jones other than he has ridiculous potential. That said, anyone saying AINEC or things like that... really? Hamilton himself has franchise #1 defenseman potential all over him too.

By far the most overused acronym on HF...AINEC! :D:p:;)

Hedman a better comparison ?

I wonder, would Hedman have been a better comparison ? His hype was through the roof here once upon a time. Seems to have similar physical attributes to Jones.

in your opinion who does Seth Jones compare to?

who does Seth Jones compare to the most from current or past NHLers. i haven't really watched much of the guy play other then the world juniors , which i thought was the best player in the whole tournament by the way. ive heard guys said chris pronger and ive heard others say ray bourque. what u guy think?

What I really noticed about him at the WJCs was sort of a flashy element that most #1 style defensemen do not have. He seems to be a pretty talented stickhandler, especially at the line, and made some nifty moves to keep the puck in.

so, I'm not really sure. To me, he plays like a huge version of a small defenseman.

He reminds me a bit of Rob Blake. Big defenseman that can skate and has a booming shot from the point. He's also a very physical player, much like Blake was, and is also a very efficient defenseman in terms of working in his own zone.
