Lmao. Like 6 games "impede" Seider's development. Howling.

You're absolutely right. Seider would've immensely benefited from leaving a men's league he's currently dominating to go play in a junior tournament with a mediocre team, where he would've had to quarantine two weeks in and two weeks out of the tournament.

Please, share more of your wisdom with me.

Bruh.... unless the guy comes into the NHL and wrecks it like McAvoy, Werenski and Sergachev he's getting a bit too hyped. I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But when the thread is breaking out "Scott Stevens" comparisons instead of remarks of Seider being his own man and the guy literally gets his own thread on HF Main... the train is going a little bit too far.
Just motivate your argument for why you think the hype is too much, that works better than just telling people to stop discussing or being excited about one of the few high-end prospects that has actually been playing hockey this season.

It is a shame for Germany though. Seider could have very possibly been the difference vs Russia and secured them a medal game (bronze). This would have been absolutely huge for German hockey.

Wtf else was he doing that was as meaningful. Playing against players in Orebro with no fans? Training camp for NHL started like 3 days ago.
Playing in a much better league?

Why would he go back (by quite a bit) in quality of play just to spend a bunch of time in quarantine and lose hockey games with Germany? Makes no sense.

Yeah why play with your best buddies and possibly make an unprecedented run at a WJC gold filled with amazing moments. Nvm I’d rather go and run drills with Blashill in Grand Rapids for 3 days before the NHL season starts

Once again, hes moved well past Junior level players, that would be a pretty big step back in his development. Would mich rather him continue to play incredibly well in the SHL rather than lose with Germany. People are putting WAY too much stock into the Russia game.. Germany had no shot at Gold and close to no shot at Bronze. Im sure playing in a an amazing league and not having to deal with quarantine is "filled with amazing moments".

Get a grip.

I followed everything up until “get a grip”. I’m sure if you asked Moritz he would have liked to have played with his buddies rather than play in meaningless games in Sweden when he KNOWS he wasn’t going to finish the season there he would have loved to help to get those boys to whatever end they could achieve.

They did ask him lol, he declined
"
“We left it up to the player,” Martin said. “He has made the decision that he would like to continue playing with Rogle (in the Swedish Hockey League) as opposed to the World Juniors. We would have been supportive of whatever he wanted to do.”
Seider weighed several factors, including the travel, having to spend time in a bubble and having to miss several games in Sweden."

Also, he's staying in Rogle until the end of the SHL season. Do a bit of research next time :thumbu:

Sorry, but I don't think missing out on like 8 games will massively hinder a prospect's development.
He would've missed ~18 games. Totally understandable to remain in Sweden IMHO.

Besides, from reading your posts I get a sense that you somehow misunderstand the situation. What has NHL training camps 3 days ago got to do with anything? Why do you call the games in the SHL "meaningless"? And why do you write that he won't finish the season in Sweden? Because he will.

Pretty sure Seider is finishing the season in the SHL...

He also WAS asked and he turned it down... So you're just very wrong

You do know hes finishing the season in Rogle right? He isnt running any drills in GR this january.

I think in a normal year Seider would have opted to play for Germany at the WJC if he had been given the choice. Then he would only have missed a handful of games. But because of the quarantine requirements both before the tournament and on his return he would have missed such a large chunk of the season that it was better for him to keep playing in Sweden.

Obviously I would have loved to see him on that German team, and given how well the rest of the team did under the circumstances I can't help but think about what might have been. But again it was the right decision for him and the safer decision for all of our opponents. :hit:

It was a shame for Germany that he was not participating but I can understand the reasoning.
He showed last year already what he can do at junior level he has nothing to prove there. Given the quarantine requirements it would not have been a sensible option for his development and season.
For Germany taking part in the WJC is important for the development of junior hockey, so players can experience that level. Potentially reaching a semifinal would unbfortunatly not change a thing, because the interest in Germany for that tournament outside "hfboards" ist literally 0.

Having said that the olympic silver medal, the performances of Draisaitl (who has been very present in the prime time media over the last weeks) and the development and early draft picks of both Seider and Stützle have raised the the public awareness of hockey.
This so needs to be backed up with further sucess by the national team in World Chapionships and Olympics to really move hockey up the rankings.

Re-read this whole thread. Seider was asked and he turned it down because he wanted to play games with Rogle. They're one of the top 3 teams in the SHL this year and he wants to win a championship with them. Afterwards he'll end up in Detroit.

First Leaf fans were trolling now Sens fans are trolling. They all just scared of what’s to come. Seider will be destroying them for years.

I watched the last five of Seider’s games and, honestly, there’s a lot left to be desired. His positioning is decent, but he struggles to clear his man out of the crease and his goalie had to bail him out on quite a few good chances that he allowed. Also, his offensive game is quite pedestrian. I understand that Seider is still really young, but I thought NHL journeyman Gelinas has been better and more dangerous than Seider on his team.

The large ice in Sweden also makes it harder to properly evaluate prospects and I think that Seider will have a really difficult time with lateral speed and quickness of the NHL, which he’s not facing now.

Overall, he’s still a good d-man prospect that will, most likely, turn into a good top-4 d-man, but with all the hype that I’ve been hearing recently, Seider has really disappointed in all of my recent viewings!

I'm wondering what games/player you were watching. I just went through his shifts for the past few games. I saw one instance where he screened his goalie while clearing the net where he got scored on, and one instance where he had a miscommunication with his d partner when pressuring the puck in the corner which led to a chance against. Those were the only two chances against that he could be considered at fault for. I saw no signs of him struggling to clear the crease and at 6'4 210lbs I wouldn't expect him to.

As for his offense, he's not going to wow you with offensive talents like Karlsson, but his skills are far from pedestrian. He has great hockey IQ, he is great at joining the rush and activating in the offensive zone (see his most recent assist on 12/30) and he has great puck skills. He also excels at keeping pucks in at the blue line. One thing Seider could improve on would be his shot. Lets compare his offensive game to another top D prospect in Byram. At the World Juniors last year, Seider had 6 points in 7 games for a Germany team that struggled to score (20 total goals). Byram so far this year (a year older than Seider) has 5 points in 6 games for Canada (41 total goals). Would you consider Byram's offense to be pedestrian as well?

And lastly you criticize Seider's skating? Thats one of his biggest strengths along with his physicality. His skating/edgework/lateral movement is amazing, and not just for a guy his size. Thats a very strange thing to nitpick on. Overall the hype he is getting is because he's one of, if not, the best defensive prospect in the NHL.

Probably shouldn't compare Seider's stats with Byram's.
Byram plays on a team where he shares a ton of ice time, including first PP time. Seider gets all the time.

Red Wings fans, like most fans, are stans.
99.5 percent of them, even on a site like this, never even considered drafting Seider on draft day and have been acting like he's a star ever since.
#TrustTheYzerplan

That said, I think Seider is going to be a big, minute-eating defenseman who really helps a team's 5 on 5 play and PK work.
He's probably going to be underpaid for how much real value he provides.

Wow, that @branch guy really got destroyed on this page, well done Red Wings fans.

Some people need to take some time and reflect over the WJC - it's not what you think it is, and it dosnt determine if you're going to be a star, a NHL-player, a SHL-player etc etc. Media is just hyping it up b/c of ratings, but I would say they have a lot of responsibility to also downplay the importance of it, but they dont ofc. I saw a lot of posteres hating on Raymond, Holtz etc after the loss to Finland, and finnish posters claiming "their" star player is going to be much better than Raymond etc, but it's just so flawed. Elias Pettersson had 1 point in 2017, he turned out OK. Peter Forsberg had 31 in '93, he did OK as well. Seider chosing not to go was the right thing to do for him, nice seing kids realize that a junior tournament isn't that important for a players development.

Shocking that the single most negative presence on the Red Wings page feels that everyone else is too cheery and optimistic.

Not really sure what you mean by this, could you please expand on this a little more?
I mean 99.9% of the fans don't work as professional scouts so the viewings of him was very limited considering he played in the DEL and he even missed some time due to injuries in his draft year. So is it really that strange that most Red Wings fans didn't consider drafting him at #6? And since Red Wings fans didn't consider him at #6 they're not supposed to be hyped because of this?
Am I understanding you correctly?

Tbh the last ~5 games have not been his most impressive. You can see that reflected in the stats as well, just 1 point and -1. The 5 games that preceded these, he had 4 points and was a +7.
Still he's logging 21-22 minutes per game lately, usually leading his team in icetime, and I obviously disagree with your overall take, but yeah, I don't think the last 5 games are his best "showcase" games.
