Probably shouldn't compare Seider's stats with Byram's.
Byram plays on a team where he shares a ton of ice time, including first PP time. Seider gets all the time.

Red Wings fans, like most fans, are stans.
99.5 percent of them, even on a site like this, never even considered drafting Seider on draft day and have been acting like he's a star ever since.

That said, I think Seider is going to be a big, minute-eating defenseman who really helps a team's 5 on 5 play and PK work.
He's probably going to be underpaid for how much real value he provides.

A lot of Wings fans were surprised and unhappy with the Seider pick at the time. but then they actually paid attention to him and really like what they've seen. A guy like Rasmussen doesn't get that kind of love from Wings fans just because Detroit drafted him. It's merit based

1+1 so far tonight

virtually the same play in both clips

It's interesting to see him playing that spot on the power play. I guess that is where he has to play, considering he doesn't have an elite shot from the point. I'm not sure that spot makes sense if he were on the Wings, though. I suspect the Wings have a forward better capable of playing that spot on the power play. Where Seider excels on the power play is holding the line and distributing the puck from the point. That's an area he can help the Wings. The question will be if the Wings prefer to have Seider on the point, or Hronek on the point who has a much better shot, but may not be quite as good at distributing the puck.

Hronek's always lined up near the left circle for one timers (i guess exactly where seider is in these clips), he typically doesnt play the point

Interesting...thanks for that. I'm not very familiar with the Wings pp formation. I know Hronek has a hard shot so I thought that he played the point. Now that I think about it, Larkin plays the point, doesn't he?

I wonder about Seider taking Larkin's spot on the point next season, Hronek staying where he is, and Larkin going on the other half wall?

Net front player (tbd)
Hronek, Mantha, Larkin

I watched the last five of Seider’s games and, honestly, there’s a lot left to be desired. His positioning is decent, but he struggles to clear his man out of the crease and his goalie had to bail him out on quite a few good chances that he allowed. Also, his offensive game is quite pedestrian. I understand that Seider is still really young, but I thought NHL journeyman Gelinas has been better and more dangerous than Seider on his team.

The large ice in Sweden also makes it harder to properly evaluate prospects and I think that Seider will have a really difficult time with lateral speed and quickness of the NHL, which he’s not facing now.

Overall, he’s still a good d-man prospect that will, most likely, turn into a good top-4 d-man, but with all the hype that I’ve been hearing recently, Seider has really disappointed in all of my recent viewings!

Tune in today by any chance ;)

The Wings have an absence of high end right hand shots, so they don't have anyone who really plays the left wing half wall spot. Hronek has a very good one timer in his repertoire, so they like to slide him down and allow him to tee things up. The opposite wing is manned by Mantha or Zadina, who also have very good shots with the opposite handedness.

Larkin will likely play the left wing half wall for the first powerplay unit, but more so as a set up guy. Let him use his skating and vision to find passing lanes, but he really is not at all a shooting threat for the powerplay. Wings tend to rely too much on puck rotation around the umbrella set up, and shots coming from the flanks, so you will see probably 70+% of shots come off the stick of Mantha, Zadina, and Hronek. Maybe Bobby Ryan has a role now that he's with the team.

Going to be hard to move Mantha way from the half wall with his shot. He’s elite in that category.

I’m hoping to see something like below when Mo and Raymond make the team. Unfortunately we have Dan Bylsma running our PP... I’d rather not comment any further on that

Bertuzzi
Larkin, Bumper, Mantha
Seider

Rasmussen
Raymond, Bumper, Zadina
Hronek

Nice to see a strong outing from Seider after the WJC put the spotlight on many of the other '19 top prospects.

Kids going to be a stud, Can't wait to he makes his professional Wings debut. Hopefully sometime this coming spring.

I've gotta imagine he's on a plane to Detroit the day after Rogle's season ends.

I think it's very dumb that Seider isn't in the NHL right now. Not least because I have a friend sitting behind him on the same team. But he should go...you know...he's ready and makes space for others.

Nah i think its smart, Detroit is likely going to be the worst team in the league again this season, no matter how good he looks at lower levels you don't want to just dump him into the middle of that. Maybe by next season they can get a little more insulation for him because this blue line looks ugly

He's still only 19 till april also. What high end defensive prospect ever had their development stunted because they werent playing in the NHL as a teenager?
