As an example, Jack Johnson always got by on his physical tools alone, and always struggled with decision making. At the NTDP, U-18s, WJCs, and at Michigan. Look at his NHL career now.

That's your comparable for Wilde and the types of issues he has now as a junior player with top notch physical tools and poor decision making.

Well he has better offensive skills than JJ but yes I can see why you are comparing the 2.

High ceiling and low floor, still worth the gamble where he was taken IMO.

The couple times I've seen him live I could definitely see why people may question his hockey IQ. He needs to pick when he's joining the rush and being aggressive better. He also turns over the puck trying to make home run passes instead of making a simple outlet pass or carrying it out. I think he's fully aware of the kind of skill he has. He just needs to reign it in a bit.
Sounds like he was tailor made to play for Dougie Weight

Hronek was a year older I don't believe Bode will be in the OHL next season if he was records would fall. Definitely will be better suited for AHL next season development wise if he gets the proper TOI.
Being a Spirit fan we would enjoy Wilde being part of the team next year. By end of the year his defensive game should be adequate.
All the tools are there, he needs that self discipline to make better decisions wich comes with Wilde maturing. All his problems defensively can be taught. You can't change size, speed or natural talent that he has in spades.

I wanted Canucks to take him, but they took Jett Woo who is okay, but I think Wilde is much better . Benning passes on USDP 2017-18 highest scoring Dman which makes no sense why Canucks didn't pick him.

Should be interesting to see what the Islanders do with Wilde. I wonder if having to send Dobson back to juniors might play with their thought process

My guess is that they like Woo better?

That being said Woo has a decent floor and while not as flashy as Wilde he plays a more transferrable game to the next level.

Lots of really skilled guy can produce in the juniors but I really wonder if his hockey IQ is up to th NHL level.

Kind of reminds me of special Ed.

Bode was voted 'best shot' by OHL coaches.

Runner up for 'best offensive defenseman'.

Having a hell of a season.

monster rookie season for the kid. Merkley and Hollowell in their 3rd and 4th OHL seasons respectively and Wilde hung with them the entire year. very impressive, hope he builds off of it and works harder on developing the rest of his game next season.

100%. If nothing else, this season will give him a lot of Confidence to build off of. I want him in summer camp and training camp so close to Trotz

The year Pulock, who was an offensive defenseman has had defensively under Trotz has been amazing. Pulock has become the islanders #1 defenseman on a team that leads the league in GA. He’s been a rock defensively.

If Wilde can round out his defensive game and keep up with his offensive skills and instincts then He’s a sure bet for a top4 defenseman and maybe even More.

6’4 200+ lbs RHS defenseman who can skate do not grow on trees. The isles have 2 in Wilde and Dobson.

Wilde has the most potential as a #1PPQB of all the current and future Isles d-men in the system. He has a sheltered ES and PP specialist role waiting for him in the near future. Dobson can log heavy ES and PK with Pulock. Mayfield as depth.

This just excites me so much. That right side has a bright future. Amazing that Wilde could be the point man for the PP with Dobson and Pulock on deck.

Also, Dobson’s ability and hockey IQ are going to be relied on heavily one day for ES and PK like you said.

So excited. Not get a stud center and LHD and we’re in business.
