Anyone have any update on this kid?

Always seemed similar to Sean Day to me.

Peaked early, hyped early - played well in juniors but has struggled to adjust to pros.

The whole vaccination thing didn’t help his case either.

If we look at Day as the ES player he has clearly not lived up to expectations.

But if we instead look at him as a 3rd round pick, he actually hasn't done to bad. He has a few NHL games under his belt and appears to be a top pairing D in the AHL. At 24, he still has time to make it and have a career. Not sure Wilde has shown that type of promise in the pros yet.

Their play-style is actually quite similar. Both guys are big, effortless skaters that can make the game look easy at times. Good offensive instincts but maybe a lack of drive.

Sean Day got a buy-out at Wilde’s age after not living up to expectations/bad locker room guy.

Not a terrible comparison IMO if you dive into it.

Sean Day also just got extended for another year by the 2X defending champs (going for 3rd) and was their top scoring Dman by a mile in the AHL. One could argue he is good enough to make more than a few NHL rosters next year.

Its not guarantee Wilde ever makes the NHL. I see the comparison statistically, but I think Day is a lot closer to being an NHL player right now than Wilde by a fair margin

I’m not comparing the players they are today. I’m comparing them on the basis of their early careers before the NHL. That’s why I made the comparison. I don’t care who they are today.

Played in Sweden last season because he refused to have a Covid shot. Didn't stand out much and unless he bounces back next season his chances of ever making it is dwindling fast.
