No, he wasn't. Nylander took it to the leafs for what he could get. All of it.

I don't think nylander has ever been a point a game player .... most first-line players have accomplished that at some point in their first 5 seasons.

Um, Nylander came down a lot more than the Leafs came up.

Nylander wanted north of 8 mill. Dubas was offering mid-6s. He received just below 7 mill, and is easily worth 8 mill today.

I'd say we did very well.

Sandin needs to leave the Leafs for a team that will let him play. Confidence is required and Keefe will never do that for him. He needs the puck.

60 pts is 1st line production. He's accomplished that twice, paced for 71 pts in the shortened season in 19-20, paced for 67 in the 20-21 shortened season and he had 80 pts in 81 games this season.

And no Nylander didn't get all of it. His ask in the negotiations was what Draisaitl got which was 8.5M and he got 6.9 which was fair for both sides

I generally would have imagined most people would be supportive of management using leverage to keep a contract down?

Sandin has few options. Basically had to take what the Leafs want on a short term deal or doesn't play in the NHL at all this season.

That’s also lousy asset management given it could be the last season of Matthews on the team. Best move is to trade him for another top prospect who can play now.

He'll almost certainly end up with something like the Liljgren contract when this is all over.

With another team.

Did anyone hear that? It's the cracks beginning to show under the boyblunder's feet.
If Malgin makes this team, it will be a long season.
No I didn't hear that. We don't have a GM called boy blunder. His name is Kyle Dubas. Nicknames don't help your cause but thats typical for any Dubas critic. "Have no point to make? Resort to nicknames"

Incorrect. I know facts don't matter to some, but Nylander is the one who caved. He asked for in the 8 range, Dubas offered mid 6's and they agreed on 6.9
Also Nylander is an elite 1st line winger. Thats just a fact.

I don't see the need to trade him at all.

He'll sign one way or the other with the Leafs. And it will give each side time to sort out his role with the team for icetime this season.

What were the years though? I recall reading nylander wanted the 8 plus for 8 years

I dont remember reading if dubas was trying the low 6s for 8 years.

I think regardless if it was 6 or 8.5 nylander grows into it as he is doing now.. i am more curious about years

He doesn't have to sign with the leafs. He can play in Europe this year while the leafs are in the final year with Matthews and Nylander.

It's becoming kind of obvious that he wants out and the leafs need cheap assets to add depth to the lineup.

This seems to be an awfully entitled attitude on Sandin's part. He really hasn't done much to merit special treatment. I'm glad to see Dubas okay hardball with this guy.

I'm not looking to push for a trade, but I'm very curious what Sandin is worth.

What could we get for him?
Probably not enough to trade him. Hayton was brought up as an option. Young C in a bit of crossroads.

Entitled? I think he has a right to be upset here. The organization has been messing around with him. They have no clear outline of what his role is in the future. He’s entitled to feel like he deserves a little bit more than Liljegren (he broke into the NHL faster and younger and was playing top 4 minutes pre injury).

No fan should be upset with Sandin, he has a right to fight for what he feels is a fair value contract for him. You only get 1 career.

It’s funny though that Dubas all of a sudden wants to be a dick when it comes to RFA deals with Sandin lol. Where was this energy with Marner and Nylander

This exactly, I don’t understand why wasn’t given more opportunity. Especially on PP2. I know people loved the Gio signing. But I’d rather let Sandin develop and grow as opposed to have Gio in that 3rd pairing spot.

Oh well not every player works out. I’m sure he’ll move on and do just fine if contracts don’t work out

Trading this guy is insane, the cupboard is almost bare, pitching a guy who could be top 4, PP quarterback, for a decade, over a short term predicament. It will be Leafy and we will regret it.

As well, I love Gio, Muz, has it occurred to anyone that they’re going to tank hard soon, the regression inevitable. So short sighted to think we can turf Sandin.

Wow, looking at this Sandin's Leaf days may be numbered. Sandin is an asset that might not fit where Dubas wants him right now. They wont pay him because he wont be top 4 next year. Reilly, Brodie,Gio and maybe Holl in front of him. Keefe will make him no promises neither. I really think this ends in trade now, when players mention "feelings" they wont be good. Sandin plus for ?

That made me barf a little in my mouth. Another first round exit and I guess they are both gone. Hopefully they go deep this post season and somehow Holl disappears.

Dubas is probably working on a 5 year extension for Holl as we speak. 4x5. Big, top 4, legit shutdown pairing RHD....Bargain.

He probably feels he's getting mixed messages.

He really hasn't done much to merit special treatment, but Dubas and Co. just couldn't help themselves spoonfeeding him top PP time in the playoffs, regardless. Guys like Sandin and Robertson probably aren't sure whether they actually have to earn anything or not.

He had the energy with Nylander for sure. He made him sit untill he came down from his 8 million, and signed him to a good contract. Marner held out until he got what he wanted though, but he is a star.

I doubt Dubas does it but people joke about this until Holl legit gets that contract next year.

Would not be surprised in the slightest. He is much better than HFLeafs will give him credit, and Gudbranson just got 4x4.

He can play in Europe but for far less money than he'd earn from the Leafs. And if he does he's just hurting his chance at establishing an NHL career. He can want out all he wants, but he's an RFA and isn't going anywhere if the Leafs don't want him to.
