He had the energy with Nylander for sure. He made him sit untill he came down from his 8 million, and signed him to a good contract. Marner held out until he got what he wanted though, but he is a star.
I asked about nylander in a different thread.. what years was nylander wanting and what years was dubas on?
If that part came out

Not sure of the term, but I think it is a good guess that the team would want more years for a young player.

He also had two seasons of 1st line production heading into his negotiations. Sandin has like 88 career NHL games so far.

Nylander produced 2x 60+ point seasons on his ELC and was entitled to negotiate for a big extension. Rasmus Sandin's contract stance is just bizarre. Maybe we just stay away from Lewis Gross clients in the future.

I doubt Dubas does it but people joke about this until Holl legit gets that contract next year.

Would not be surprised in the slightest. He is much better than HFLeafs will give him credit, and Gudbranson just got 4x4.

Yeah I was only half joking with that post. Half joking and half scared that it will actually happen.

I think it’s the playing time not really the money. What’s the point of signing if you’re never going to play? He’s a first rounder he at least deserves the opportunity to show. It’s not like he’s hugely disappointed through his performances. I think he’s probably frustrated at how they are somewhat blocking his progress.

Patience.

6 games in, how are we feeling about him?
I thought he looked pretty good last game. I'm hoping this is him catching up to speed after missing most of camp and has another gear.

Did he get PP1 time last game? Do you think he could bump Rielly from there? I think he has a better shot..

Since moving back to LD he's been great. He got 1st unit PP time when Rielly was in the box for fighting. He assisted on the PP goal but it wasn't in a way that Rielly couldn't have done. Sandin has a good chance of surpassing Rielly on that unit due to his shot being heavier and he has better shot selection, but I don't think the Leafs will break up the best PP unit from last season after less than 10 games this season.

Slow start as expected but has found his game recently
Yeah he’s playing on his strong side again and ur right he’s been playing pretty good second pair minutes which is good on keefe who I thought might have put gio in there instead but good on him juss can’t wait for lily to be bacc to see what we actually have

I think he’s played well. He’s not the fastest skater but I don’t think he’s slow either, he also has good agility and edges. He hasn’t lost a step with the added weight which is a good thing.

He is nr 21 in entire NHL in hits delivered according to NHL.com.

Is he really that physical?

He doesn't hesitate to hit and put his whole body into it, sometimes with surprising effect. But typically he takes himself completely out of the action to do so because it's a big effort. So I'm not really sure about it yet.

I think Sandin’s offensive tools are ahead of Mo at his age - the first pass, the shot, the vision and the hands, he is very refined offensively.

All this while he’s 10-15 lbs less than where you want him and he isn’t fast. Mo skated better and that’s about it.

He could absolutely end up better than Mo, I don’t think he does but he could.
There's a stylistic difference that favors Sandin. He's very smooth - typical Swedish calm. But it's inaccurate to say Sandin's offensive tools are ahead of Reilly's at the same age.

Reilly's been a fixture since he was 19. Only now does Sandin at 22 look to be a permanent piece on our blue line.

I think our hope should be invested in Sandin (and Liljegren) becoming a better all-around defenceman. If advanced stats translate into playoffs success, then I'll hop on board that train when it comes.
