Gross can hopefully get him a Swedish league deal so he can play in 2022/23 .. otherwise he will sit da season out .. from what I heard yesterday Shanny has made his mind up .. no trade .. sign offer or sit season

Right approach. f*** him. Take what we offer or f*** off and sit. Tired of getting bent over by players who are RFAs. So worried about playing time be better than the rest then.

Fine by me. Leafs have no reason to sign him to what he wants. Leafs have a good D core without him. Good news is you can hold onto Holl and not have to give him away for low return.

I've always said the best solution was for him to go off to Sweden for a year. Whether it's Muzzin or Gio, a LHD spot will most likely be vacant for next season and we can slot him in then. We don't really need him this year unless there are injuries, but we really do need him for the future since 2/3 of our LHD are on their last legs.

Sandin has no leg to stand on...

...yet he's negotiating against Dubas...

...who has no leg to stand on.

If Sandin holds out into the regular season, until he signs I doubt the Leafs move Holl. Otherwise one of Benn (7D) or Mete (waiver fodder) would see regular minutes until Sandin signs.

Agreed 100% but still hope he can play pro hockey next year in Sweden .. having a guy sit for an entire year especially a guy who does not skate well to begin with is not best use of our guy either .. these people including Gross are kidding themselves thinking any other NHL team will offer sheet this kid .. it is dreaming in technicolor

Sandin wants to be traded. That's obvious to any onlooker.

We can all speculate as to what happened here but it likely has something to do with usage and playing time. It's also possible that he's not enthralled with Dubas.

Whatever it is Sandin will likely be traded for a first round pick or top prospect.

Sandin for Mason MacTavish?

add in Zegras and we've got a deal

That solves our centre issue OMG what a deal that would be .. Dubie would become my hero

Lol that is highway robbery... why would a rebuilding ducks team even do that... He is perfect for them. And honestly Sandin is not enough to even make that deal let's be real.

Just because Sandin is pouting don't kid yourself. He's a top D prospect with PP QB potential and very high hockey IQ. With improved skating he's a top pairing D man.

There's plenty of teams in the league that would trade for him.

He is absolutely not a top pairing D man on a contender... Mactavish has a much much higher ceiling than Sandin. Rasmus is a good #3 or 4. He will not and cannot carry your team as a top pairing.

I am sure many teams would trade for Sandin and I actually do not want to lose him. However, we need to shut this down. We are trying to win a cup here... our players can't think they are better than they are and they also should not earn money for what they WILL produce but for what they have produced. Same thing should have been said to Matthews, Marner and Nylander (less so him.. his deal was fair ish). None of these players have won a damn thing including JT. Win and then get paid. It's that simple. In Sandin's case... show us and then get paid because he is not expected to win us a cup like the top guys are.

Sandin definitely is a very high IQ, cerebral defender. I like his point shot and his awareness. That said, his skating isn't good. He's not Luke Schenn but watching him try to pivot isn't pretty sometimes. I think it's pretty unlikely he becomes a top pair D. I think his ceiling now is a top 4 D.

That said, he isn't worth McTavish. Ducks would hang up on the spot.

Apparently you don't read posts. I said he's a top pairing D man with improved skating.

McTavish projects as a #2 center which is equal value to a #3 D man.

Only bad thing is Holl being in the lineup. He’s a disaster. Not impressed with Sandin holding out either.

Holl is a Dubas-Keefe pet project who was actually protected in the expansion draft as if it was necessary in the first place. He goes when Dubas goes.
That made me barf a little in my mouth. Another first round exit and I guess they are both gone. Hopefully they go deep this post season and somehow Holl disappears.

I generally would have imagined most people would be supportive of management using leverage to keep a contract down?

Sandin has few options. Basically had to take what the Leafs want on a short term deal or doesn't play in the NHL at all this season.

Just a refresher about his track record to date:
-Most productive 18 year old defenseman in AHL history, ahead of guys like Lindholm/Seider/Liljegren/Voynov
-2nd most productive 19 year old AHL defenseman right after John Carlson
-WJC top defenseman
-Good results in the NHL as a 21 year old

There's definitely some concerns due to his limited NHL track record in the top 4 and injury history, but it's not worth losing a player like him for nothing over a minor contract dispute
