Chytil was very good. There was a sequence in the first period where he did a great job defensively down low in the Rangers zone and then generated offense in the offensive zone on the same shift. I wish I knew how to make and edit videos. Chytil had some good stretches last night. This player is finally showing signs of getting his game together and the media wants to trade him.
Can you blame anybody for wanting to trade him the way he played in the first half?

I was in that camp too.

He has been excellent lately. I don’t think he’s a player that will raise the level of lesser players on his line, but he fits right in when he’s given more talented line mates. You need players like this in addition to your panarins, Kreiders, and Zibanejads.

He still may get traded in the grand scheme of things, but I am personally way more apprehensive about it now.

@Synergy27 Just touched on it, but kudos to Kenny for mentioning the 5v5 goals stat for Lafreniere. Edzo had zero idea, and I guarantee just about every fan watching that game that wasn't a Rangers fan was shocked to hear it. Another solid game from him last night. More engaged, more physical, made a nasty toe-drag move to the backend at one point, too. You can tell he's feeling it. He also at one point took the puck behind his goal-line and protected it and turned out towards the left side of the goal-line and started skating and accelerating, with the speed that has gotten much better. He's definitely improving, and once his role increases, he should be a very solid player. Two things sucked last night; he didn't get a point on the Chytil goal, even though it was his FO win that created the entire sequence, and then he missed the net twice in prime scoring areas. He's got a rocket wrister, though.

Hearing the commentators discuss the fact that Laf is first in the team in 5 on 5 goals with shock and disbelief was akin to browsing the main board. I got a kick out of that.
It was Kenny who started it. To be honest, a bit of homer bias showing through on a national telecast. Informed fans on both sides know Kenny is our radio guy.

Easily better than Handzus

I keep running the numbers and it keeps coming up as Kreider with 19

I mean, it's not great and in no way am I defending Georgiev's performance. But from a stats pov he doesn't really stand out from other backups in the league.

Out of 31 goalies who have played more than 15 and less than 30 games:
16th for GAA with 3.11. Pretty much the same as Murray, Anderson and Binnington.
25th for SV% with .892. Along with six other goalies on .89.
11th for SO with one. This stat doesn't really tell you much, as only 16 have posted a shutout.
10th for wins.

It's not good by any means, but not horrible either, compared to other backups. I think the issue is more the number of softies that get by him, the timing of when they go in and how he doesn't seem to be ready for the shot.

The fact that he ranks better for GAA and wins is a clear indication that the team is saving his behind and there are absolutely much better backups in the league, but you're not going to have 60+ great (or even good) goalies in the NHL. I'm just happy that our starter is arguably the best in the bunch.
I’d be curious what these stats look like if the games he played when Shesty was injured are removed. Georgiev does not have the mental capacity to be a backup NHL goalie. It’s that simple.

Don't know what topic to put this in so we'll continue here.

Record in 1-goal games:
FLA- 16-4-6 (5 regulation wins)
CAR- 16-7-8 (10 regulation wins)
TB- 19-3-6 (8 regulation wins)
PIT- 12-5-11 (5 regulation wins)
NYR- 21-5-5 (13 regulation wins)

Rangers have the best record in one goal games, most regulation wins by far. Only thing this doesn't take into account because it would require a lot of effort is how many wins all the teams have with an empty net goal late to win by 2. But a lot of these teams are getting shootout points and loser points. I think NYR may be suited for playoff hockey, 3-2 games are more likely than 7-2 games that FLA is used to.

If they continue to play like this, I'm 100% behind them.

Their games since the deadline have been highly palatable.

And I don't just mean because they're winning. If you have to win all the time to be engaged, you're in the wrong hobby. That being said, this is a product and I consume it to be entertained. Getting outshot badly while Igor does flips and twirls bores me.

Since they've added more depth and badly needed speed, they're playing real hockey.

Full speed ahead!

I'm going to guess that Florida will attemp to clamp down on D in the couple weeks before the playoffs. I hope they don't, though.

very impressive to pull that out in a game georgiev did everything possible to lost. that was an incredible performance. so bad it was funny bad. hes gotta go now. his misery deflates the team even more than the muffins that roll through him on the ice. kinkaid would at least give us consistent average play and is a positive personality the team rallies around. with georgiev its like gallant giving them an obstacle course to make wins more challenging. maybe it pays off having all this experience being in situations we need a goal? trying to find any silver lining to him still being on this team

best laf has ever looked... and then he showed his leadership trying to handle the georgiev issue himself. captain sht

I missed this what did he do?
