Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Toronto

Marty should've started tonight. Hank really needs a game off, but he'll probably be in tomorrow night. Hopefully Staalsy returns soon and tightens the D up. It was horrible last night.

Set your sights on 6th place. Playing one of the SE teams > Montreal, Pittsburgh, or Boston.

What happened to what was considered by many to be the best defensive corps in the game?

1/3 of it hit the IR list lol (Staal, Sauer) Girardi is also on a down year and McD while great isn't a Norris level defender like he was trending to be.

Hank was an average NHl goalie today. Scary what this team would be like if we had that more often. Can't even blame him for the first and last goals though. Seriously DZ Girardi is right there why are you chasing in the opposite corner what a brain fart!?

You have to expect to drop a game here and there. If we can win the next 2 we are in great shape considering that one of those is icelanders.

Wouldve been really nice to at least get a point last night.

Was super amped when Step scored to tie it but they just couldnt hold it together. They really need to start bearing down in the defensive zone, because everywhere else they are looking good. No doubt the absence of Staal is hurting the balance of this team defensively.

There are some really good things though, offensively that we are seeing from the Rangers. Hopefully it continues. Zucc was an absolute pest out there last night, and he couldve had a couple. Really was hoping for him to get one.

The Rangers need Hagelin to snap back into top form and I think theyll really take off. Stepan, what more can you say? The kid is just being as consistent as anyone in the league. He's gotta be the team MVP with Henrik.

All in all I thought the Rangers played a good game. Had one of those early posts gone in, I think the Rangers take this one. Theyll get a second chance tomorrow.

Zuccarello is a pretty good player, I love his creativity, vision, speed...but the dude is not an elite goal scorer by any means, similar to Hagelin. I'd love to find a player with all those assets, AND the ability to bury his chances. Not to mention have a little more size.

I would like to see Miller on a line with Brassard soon. I think those two could make some things happen.

The Leafs played very well. Good skating, confident passing, tenacious forechecking. They forced the Rangers to play a more urgent, open game. Team looks like it could make a splash int he playoffs.

Hagelin's offense has disappeared of late. That's a concern.

You say that so matter-of-fact-ly...

They'll be damn lucky to get 2-3 pts out of the next two. One gm against the team they just lost to last night and the other against their cross town rivals who ALWAYS play better against them, than they do against anyone else AND who just happen to be the team they are clawing tooth and nail with for the last couple of playoff spots.

Ho, hum just win the next two.

This. If you charted the goals scored in the NHL, the majority would be scored from in front of the net and towards the slot...not from the corner. Why chase the puck into the corner. It was like earlier in the year when Halpern went to join the other 3 Rangers in the corner against the Flyers while shorthanded and left a Flyer guy wide open in the slot.

If Torts is preaching this type of puck pressure, its on him if not, the players have to get a lot smarter.

Said this in the game thread and i'll repeat it here.

GIGANTIC 2 points lost tonight. This was a must win game 100%. Kiss any shot at 5th goodbye and you just gave the Sens some more life to hold on to their position. Not good enough tonight. They have turned no corner yet.
Why would you want the 5 seed?
You want to play Boston or Montreal?

You want the sixth hole.

Staal got injured.

Everyone else regressed.
Rangers GAA is within top ten.

Better question, why did McD-DG get split up.
Has DG regressed?

I think if anything on defense, McD and DG are tired from last season and this season.
Moore was supposed to help.

10 people picked MDZ...what? Looked like he had a Leafs jersey on last night...bad game for him, but he has been playing very well...

Yeah, I've got no problems with the Rangers or their fans. It's usually a good, close game every time we play too. It's some good hockey.

It's odd I actually really like the Rangers and most Rangers fans. Probably because Toronto is the New York of Canada and everyone hates us. Good game and looking forward to Wednesday. You guys will surprise people in the playoffs. Much better team than your record.

And I would like a gorgeous wife who takes care of everything in the house including washing/sexing/cooking.

Problem is that a perfect candidate cost heaps of money. No chance to get a "super Zuc" for the price of a regular Zuc.

Thought we played pretty decent overall. Sad we lost, but thought we actually outplayed them. Hank doesn't give up four goals often and Reimer had some great saves, specifically the ones on Clowe in the third.

Anyway, on to the next one, team showed a lot of grit and back bone coming back in the third from down two and not quitting until the clock had run out.

As for your above post, a couple responses.

1) The player you are describing is going to cost Nash money. You want someone who can score goals, have elite vision AND size? I mean how many players in the NHL can do that?

2) I don't want to see Miller back in the lineup this season.

Unfortunately it was one of those nights where the defense was clueless and Hank looked tired / shaky in net. Not saying the goals were Hank's fault, but he certainly looked a bit off tonight. Lots of shots seemed to handcuff him or confuse him, and he spent a highly unusual amount of time sitting on his ass instead of being in an easily recoverable position. He also left a ton of rebounds right out in front of the net, and that, combined with the god-awful defensive coverage, painted a pretty ugly picture in our own end.

Good games by Nash and Step again. Those two have a combined 24 points in the last 10 games. 13 for Stepan and 11 for Nash.

As has been mentioned, he won the game for the Leafs so he was obviously the MVP of the game.

No one talks of the two posts when the score was 0-0, that first goal could have changed things.

What about the ****ed up line change on the first Leafs goal (seconds after Girardi hit the post)? The forwards left Del Z and Girardi out to dry on that one.

Still bitter about this loss...We came back only to have our defense mess up literally within a few seconds. So angry as we are chasing this team for playoff positioning.

Must win game against the Leafs at MSG

Poe, after Steps tied it I was hoping they would sit on the tie and at least get the 1 point

Agreed. TOR is playing good hockey this season. I'm not that mad, especially if we win on Wednesday. I am mad, though, about how we lost- come back from 3-1 to let them get the lead back 2 minutes later? Such a Rangers thing to do. In the grand scheme though I'm not too steamed.

I'm with you here. People act like we dropped a game to the Panthers in week 1 of the season instead of being at the end of the season, dropping a game to a team they are chasing, and holding a VERY tenuous grasp on a playoff spot. EVERY point is crucial now with the situation they put themselves in. People forget how they have been following up good stretches with EXTREMELY bad stretches this season. Are we headed for that this week?

Very good game. Quality hockey was displayed by both teams. They had a better goalie last night, hence they edged us. I wouldn't read to much into this loss. Can't win them all. Important, though, we can win in PO should we face TOR because everything being equal we have the best goalie in conference.
