Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Toronto

I'm hoping this loss will give the team a sense of urgency so they play 3 solid periods on Wednesday. If we played 3 periods of how we played the 3rd period I think we would have won this game, even with our terrible defensive showing last night.

So fed up with this ****ing defense. Dont say its one game because its been all year. They have good numbers but the goaltender makes the numbers better than they should be. Why do you think he doesnt have any shutouts? This is a guy who usually gets 7 at least, I have a hard time believing its his fault.

McDonagh has had a bad year. Del Zotto has been mostly solid but then he has these games where hes the worst player ever. Staal was up and down before he got hurt. Girardi is just a lump of ****.

Steve Eminger has been, by leaps and bounds, our most consistent D-man this year. STEVE. EMINGER. Think about that.

I don't think urgency was the issue last night in the slightest. They controlled play for most of the game (directed 74 shots towards net, compared to Toronto's 54). If they showed passable defensive zone coverage they would have won.

No. Just.. no.

Eminger has been solid this year. But, minus injury Staal has been our most consistent dman.

Eminger is a warrior and is underrated but not THAT underrated. He is still pretty much a #5.

The play from the defense, especially over the last two games, has been concerning to say the least. I'm fairly confident that getting Staal back will be the shot in the arm the D needs, but they have too many 'must-win' games that will be played before that will happen. They need to find a solution for their woes quickly before it is too late.

Steve Eminger has been fine for a 7th D-Man. But to say he has been our most consistent is just stupid.

Del Zotto, IMO has been our best D-Man, not counting Staal. I think Stralman is probably #2

Girardi and McD have come down to earth but been fine.

Your statements have been all over the place lately and are not coming from your brain. You need to calm down a little bro.

Now I didnt say Eminger was our best. I said he was our most consistent. Yeah hes a 3rd pair guy, but at least thats what he is every night. Not Doug Harvey one night and Dmitri Kalinin the next like alot of guys on this team.

You are comparing Eminger to our top 4 who play way more minutes and against the top players in the league. Hand those things to Eminger and he'd be a complete mess.

Mike Sauer has easily been the Rangers most consistent defenseman this season. Know exactly what you're getting from him every night.

Really? I thought they were playing like they didn't give a **** in the first period. They had only 3 shots on goal despite having a lot of time in the offensive zone. They just kept trying to cycle around the perimeter instead of trying to get the puck on the net like they did later in the game.

Nash and Stepan were really solid and I though McD was very good as well.

One thing I have noticed is that every-time we play against you guys at the ACC, Hank always seems to be a little shaky or he seems to have an offnight. This is just about tonight but even in the past when we were a mediocre team, Lundqvist doesn't seem to do well against us.

That's not what he's saying and I'm sure that Machinehead agrees that more time for Eminger probably isn't a good bet.

I don't really disagree too much with him that Eminger has been pretty consistent. He's had a good year. Good for him.

First, he said 'by leaps and bounds', that alone is ridiculous.

If anything can be said he's consistently average, which would put him back with the pack anyway. Literally :D

If Eminger is consistently a 6, he is the most consistent defenseman on the team. You can be average, even below average, and be consistent.

It is much easier to be consistently average.

Maybe Blair Betts was our most consistently 4th line player, but that doesn't really tell us too much.

And yes, good for Eminger. We keep trying to get rid of him, and he keeps doing just enough to warrant bringing him back.

Yeah like Jonathan said im not advocating more minutes for Eminger, its just nice to have a guy show up and play their role every night. The only other guys that have done that this year are Stepan, Nash, Lundqvist, Powe, and to an extnt Stralman.

The Powe love, I won't understand. Next year he'll be what Pyatt is now, I'm sure.

Disagree.

Powe is a lot more useful than Pyatt is. He is usually the first player on the forecheck, is speedy, and excels on the penalty kill. Pyatt does none of that. Yes, I know Powe has hands of absolute stone, but his role isn't to score. I'm fine with him as a 4th liner.

I would like to get a 4th line center that has a little bit more goal scoring prowess, though. Maybe someone that can pot 5-7 goals instead of 0. Then throw Powe on the LW.
