Get used to it. Scoring is gonna be down the rest of the season for all teams. With less whistles being blown like in the playoffs, letting the teams play, less PP's means less scoring. There were quite a few non-calls tonight. Plus with the tighter checking and less space to make plays, games are going to be more on the defensive side.

On the bright side, we have shown all year we can win these tight games, which is a positive moving forward towards playoff hockey. Especially with Shesty in net.

And again, your bottom six doesn't have to score to be productive. It's very productive to keep the team deep in their own zone for stretches at a time. And their type of hard nose grinding play in the O zone, will produce their share of goals come postseason. That's been the case with most teams come playoffs, as most of the superstars cool off.

We would still be better off without plugs like Mckegg and Gauthier. They bring nothing to the table and we will need more 5x5 scoring in the playoffs. Kakko and another 3rd line type guy who isn't a black hole offensively will go a long way to making this team more balanced and dangerous.

Kreider Mika Laf
Panarin Strome Miller
??? Goodrow Kakko
Hunt Rooney Reaves

there will be options to fill out this lineup further

i think Chytil is gone. Lundkvist for sure. Kravtsov for sure. Our first for sure. We’ve got 2 2nds to use.

jones I’m not so sure they’ll try and keep him but they won’t not make a deal because of him.

I hope if they give up top prospects like Lundkvist and a top draft pick it's for younger, long term guys and not rentals that we can't sign.

Yah that’s probably not happening. They’ll be making moves for short term or rental veteran players.

I won't argue over McKegg. But Gauthier is built for playoff hockey. Big, strong and fast. Draws penalties by keeping his feet moving, goes hard to the net, and throws his weight around. He'll be useful come playoffs in a limited role.

chytil is likely on borrowed time. He looked good on the wing scoring 4 pts in 4 games when he was supposedly injured.
He’s just not capable of generating/having the responsibilities a 3C on a playoff team needs atm.
I think if he’s not dealt at the TDL, for sure in the summer.
I’m not sure why Gallant just didn’t do the obvious with kakko out.
Shift chytil to wing with Bread/Strome and Barron as 3C.....
I just don’t understand..

I think if nemeth plays well, Drury will leave the D as is, with Jones as the extra for the playoffs.... even though he should be a starter.

going 4-0-1 in our last 5 is a blessing and a curse.... it’s allowing the team to get by with making those type of substitutions..
On the flip side, it’s also not putting a huge amount of pressure to make a hasty move by overpaying on a trade...
He 100% will add 1-2 players, he absolutely knows we need more/better depth.

He laid out a couple of people tonight. Had 4 hits in under 10 minutes of ice time. He is second only to Reavo in hits per sixty this year.

I have no problem with that part of his game but IMO a 3rd line player needs to still be more productive on the scoresheet. 6 points in 37 games is not good enough.

I missed the 2nd but that just felt like a really boring game. Beat a team we should have beat, and 2 points in nice, but I'd still really like to see more 5v5. Also didn't feel like the kind of game where Reaves needed to play 12 mins (or 11:53 anyway).
Get Jones in next game, swap Chytil and Goodrow, and get somebody to finish a Laf setup!
Get used to boring games. We are going to play a lot of them.

And as long as we are on the right side of the score, I’m good with that.

Is Gauthier a disappointment? Can he be better? Hell yeah. But for now, he is still useful in a limited role. And come playoffs, how many times have we seen no name players step up their game? And if anyone has an upside to play playoff style hockey, it would be him.

I just wish by the time playoffs come around, he will learn how to chip the puck up the boards better. You can't go dump and chase if you can't dump the puck. LOL

Stupid, fireable offenses.

Let me tell you what I do know. Every game I come by this site. And i read through a few posts, and a few laughs and it's great. But you know what the best part of my day is? It's for about ten seconds from when I scroll through the comments until I get to a post like this. Because I think maybe I'll get to the latest message and it won't be there. No whining about how we can’t trade Lundkvist unless we get back a 20 year old top 6 center, no “Igor is the only reason we’re good”, no nothin'. Just people enjoying the win and this season. I don't know much, but I know that.

Played a pretty ok / good game. Kind of a boring one, not much to say.

They need to add 1-2 more top 9 forwards.

I’ll take okay/even at ES with this group.

if they can get to the point where they pretty much break even at ES they’re going to be tough to deal with for anyone.

I don’t understand why this group doesn’t play collectively pissed off all the time. Their best games this year have been when they’ve played angry. Playoff series tend to bring that emotion out of teams, so hopefully that’s when it’ll be out there with some consistency, but they never play that way unless the other team initiates (to their credit, they’ve always pushed back.)

there needs to me more of a mentality of initiating. This group can mug a bunch of teams in this league if they want to.

Maybe they are having a hard time getting angry w how much they win

Have had this same thought more than a few times recently. Much of their best work has occurred in games that got a little chippy. But they rarely push that button. I get it, hard to play with that edge for 82 games in the reg season. Excited to see what comes out in the POs.

They are comfortably in a playoff position and haven't played a lot of divisional or rival games lately where the emotions are higher and the games get chippy. I think we will start seeing more of that starting with Washington on Thursday.

Another W, on pace for 113 points. Detractors will continue to detract, but we're top 6 in the league in points and top 6 in points percentage.
Yep. Every team is flawed. Are there issues with this Rangers team? Sure. But also much more to enjoy. Glad Nemeth seems ok. Would still prefer to have Jones with Schneider but if fine with Nemeth as 7D, at least while we can afford him.

A lot of excuses. Maybe Smith is saying those things so his players future efforts keep rising and they don’t get discouraged? If not, you’re right, sounds weak.
Probably. And I guess all coaches do it. And to be fair he did say the rangers didn’t give them much. I’m not really saying Smith is even wrong. Just a particularly boring dude, is all.
