I missed the 2nd but that just felt like a really boring game. Beat a team we should have beat, and 2 points in nice, but I'd still really like to see more 5v5. Also didn't feel like the kind of game where Reaves needed to play 12 mins (or 11:53 anyway).
Get Jones in next game, swap Chytil and Goodrow, and get somebody to finish a Laf setup!

This team has absolutely nothing happening at 5v5. Nothing.

I preferred when we put 20 shots on goal but scored 4 lol
That’s when we used to get 5+ power play chances a game. Other teams have taken note of our 5 on 5 stats and don’t take penalties on us. They bide their time, stay focused on positional hockey and wait for us to press too hard so they can counter attack 5 on 5. We get 1 pp a game these days and score on it.

Even though our bottom lines don't score, you can't underestimate how hard they play in the offensive zone. They have been spending a lot of time in there and that is more valuable than you might think. It keeps the opponents from scoring in our end and softens up and tires the opposing D.

Since when does any team expect scoring from their bottom six other than chipping in once in a while. I think our 3rd and 4th lines are probably one of the reasons we have done so well this season. And those bottom six are why we are right up there as one of the league leaders in hits.

The better teams do have bottom sixers who can be productive and pot one every now and then. Our bottom 6 is a back hole offensively and it puts a lot of pressure on the top 6. When we get Kakko back and at least 1 middle 6 forward help at the TDL then Goodrow can move down to the 3rd, Hunt to the 4th, and guys like Mckegg and Gauthier can be watching from the stands. It would really help if we could spread out the scoring a little especially in the playoffs. We have scored 5 goals the last 3 games(not including the shootout goal). That's simply not enough and it's a concern.

The fact that we have a fourth line and a fifth line is really more of an argument for not doing anything. At least not anything expensive.

This has been our main problem for years now (lack of depth) and it’s beginning to get real glaring that our GMs can’t find better cheap depth.

You seem to have forgotten that Blais is out for the year, Kravs went to Russia, and Kakko is hurt. Thats 3 RW's that were counted on prior to the season. Not many teams wouldn't struggle with depth in that situation. If even 2 of those guys were playing there wouldn't be a problem. Getting Kakko back and 1 middle 6 type guy will help the depth a good deal.

You are making my point for me.

How is that? You say it's the Gm's fault that they can't get cheap depth. Was he supposed to have a crystal ball to know that 3 RW's were not going to play? It really won't take much to add some depth at the tdl.

Kreider-Zibs-Laf
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Middle 6 pickup-Chytil-Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

Thats really not a bad forward group and easily doable.

@TheBloodyNine who for the record I agree with on the points he’s making most of the time I just usually disagree with the hyperbolic nature of a lot of the posts he makes.
Yeah I am with you on that in regards to the hyperbole. I called Pitt over taking us earlier than they have (I know we have games on hand, and let's crush them next week), the Cap CAN over take us just like we CAN go deep in the playoffs this year. Neither is particularly likely with how things are shaping up.

I said it’s been a problem for the last two GMs, but if you want to single this current GM out there are plenty of examples.

You said "our GM's". Drury did plenty to get some forward depth in the off season. Reaves, Goodrow, Hunt. Plus he thought that Blais Kravs and Kakko would play significant roles. I can't blame him for injuries even if he may have shared some of the blame for Kravs hissy fit. I'm sure he will also address depth in a few weeks.

Not for nothing the Rangers are 4-0-1 in their last 5 games.

6th in the league in points and Win %

Drury isn’t going to make a panic move. He’s got time. We are stressed but the team is hardly floundering

He's going to address needs on his terms and has that luxury. They do need some scoring depth though.

Get used to it. Scoring is gonna be down the rest of the season for all teams. With less whistles being blown like in the playoffs, letting the teams play, less PP's means less scoring. There were quite a few non-calls tonight. Plus with the tighter checking and less space to make plays, games are going to be more on the defensive side.

As Gallant said postgame, there weren't many quality chances for either team tonight.

On the bright side, we have shown all year we can win these tight games, which is a positive moving forward towards playoff hockey. Especially with Shesty in net.

And again, your bottom six doesn't have to score to be productive. It's very productive to keep opponents deep in their own zone for stretches at a time. And their type of hard nose grinding play in the O zone, will produce their share of goals come postseason. That's been the case with most teams come playoffs, as most of the superstars cool off.

Kreider Mika Laf
Panarin Strome Miller
??? Goodrow Kakko
Hunt Rooney Reaves

there will be options to fill out this lineup further

i think Chytil is gone. Lundkvist for sure. Kravtsov for sure. Our first for sure. We’ve got 2 2nds to use.

jones I’m not so sure they’ll try and keep him but they won’t not make a deal because of him.
