Is Gauthier a disappointment? Can he be better? Hell yeah. But for now, he is still useful in a limited role. And come playoffs, how many times have we seen no name players step up their game? And if anyone has an upside to play playoff style hockey, it would be him.

I just wish by the time playoffs come around, he will learn how to chip the puck up the boards better. You can't go dump and chase if you can't dump the puck. LOL
Speaking of...was it just me or did the Rangers do a lot more flipping the puck high last night ? Miller did it a few times ...flipped it high to buy an extra second for the forwards . With Gauthier all he needs is a new deal and a couple of goals and then watch him go . You are absolutely correct...he could be a playoff monster for us if Gallant can make that connect . It will also determine his next contract value . I have my doubts though if we trade with the Habs for something...he will be requested as a throw in....I don't like that . I'm not a fan of throwing in big boys at 230 pounds that can skate like the wind .

A lot of excuses. Maybe Smith is saying those things so his players future efforts keep rising and they don’t get discouraged? If not, you’re right, sounds weak.
Well..it is true . They have played a lot of hockey of late getting in make up games and such plus they had Batherson...a really good forward and Chabot out . Sens gave us all we could handle yesterday as usual.

chytil is likely on borrowed time. He looked good on the wing scoring 4 pts in 4 games when he was supposedly injured.
He’s just not capable of generating/having the responsibilities a 3C on a playoff team needs atm.
I think if he’s not dealt at the TDL, for sure in the summer.
I’m not sure why Gallant just didn’t do the obvious with kakko out.
Shift chytil to wing with Bread/Strome and Barron as 3C.....
I just don’t understand..

I think if nemeth plays well, Drury will leave the D as is, with Jones as the extra for the playoffs.... even though he should be a starter.

going 4-0-1 in our last 5 is a blessing and a curse.... it’s allowing the team to get by with making those type of substitutions..
On the flip side, it’s also not putting a huge amount of pressure to make a hasty move by overpaying on a trade...
He 100% will add 1-2 players, he absolutely knows we need more/better depth.

I want it to work with Chytil but too often the most noticeable things he does are blueline turnovers and wincing in pain on the bench.

Have to agree....Panarin had his legs moving in that game .It was nice to see .

He didnt shoot enough against DET but the puck was on his stick all game, so you could tell his game is improving. Now we just need Fox to start getting pucks on goal and well really be cooking.

BTW, Panarin over 1.5 points always comes with some juice, and its basically free money when hes on a hot streak like this

Gauthier needs to park his ass in front of the net on that 3rd line. Big body who plays physical but he needs to understand hes not a speed/skill guy at this level. Get the puck to the D, get to the front of the net and clean up the garbage. The kid is borderline immovable when stationary.

. Laf really stood out with some nice plays, along with buying time for K and Z to change and taking on two guys in the corner that eventually wound up generating a chance for.
Igor was Igor. We are spoiled. Miller was off. Nemeth got better after the first. He isn’t going to wow you with his wheels. He’s best when gapping and closing guys off on the wall. Strome with a good game, Panarin, too. Really going to need to grind out wins until they can get help. When you’re icing McKegg and G and Hunt nightly on any line other than the fourth, you’re in trouble. Chytil looked good again. He’s just up against it playing with those two guys. Fourth line better after the first. Schneider is a stud.
Both Miller and Trouba were shaky; unusual. We have six 4th liners suiting up every night. Cannot generate offense that way and Kreider when he's not scoring is just not good.

I’d be shocked if he goes his career without scoring a goal. One of the best puck handling goalies of all time
there is just no way he won't get at least 1. there are too many opportunities over the course of his career. We see how he handles the puck, with a huge stick mind you, if we didnt need him as a goalie......
His reaction was like "no big deal", next time....with wink and all.
Hope Turk doesnt curtail his prowess, icing and everything, well everyone does that.....just don't get intercepted. better w/2 goal lead.

TSN guys mentioned that too, but nowadays analytics says shoot for the empty net every time when there's a clear opportunity, eff the risk of a mopey dopey icing. The much greater odds of the long range shot finding the net and sealing the game are supremely more valuable that the tiny odds of an icing leading to a faceoff loss and tie game. Even if you don't take the chance and don't ice it, the opposition can still come back and tie it up right away (we've seen that) so the % are only adjusted minimally by a failed long range shot. But if you do score the odds of the opposition tying it become virtually 0.

Side point but related, I was surprised the ice was pretty bumpy yesterday too, I would think Canada would have great ice. It wasn't as bas as MSG on Thursday with pucks hopping over sticks on shootout attempts, but not the first time the ice at Ottawa wasn't great.

I won't argue over McKegg. But Gauthier is built for playoff hockey. Big, strong and fast. Draws penalties by keeping his feet moving, goes hard to the net, and throws his weight around. He'll be useful come playoffs in a limited role.
It remains to be seen, but I could see this happening.

We nitpick about the Rangers quite a bit but its nice knowing we are the team no one wants to play in a 7 game series. Winning 4 of 7 against Igor and a powerplay that can swing the momentum of a game in a heartbeat is no easy task.
A very small part of me thinks back to all of our playoff series against the Caps. Ovi scoring on the PP and Holtby playing out of his mind were basically the only parts of those teams that scared me.

the ice was BAD. at first, I was thinking we were not completing any passes BECAUSE the ice was so much better than MSG. and we're simply not used to receiving picks smoothly. Turned out to be that the ice was bad, but not MSG bad. lol.

The difference in all those was that Holtby couldnt outplay Hank. Another thing that adds to how scary Rangers can be is Igor's puckmoving ability. You really take the wear and tear off the D in a potentially long series when you have another set of hands back there.

It's nice to see the analytics disprove lack of power play chances. Still, everything in the playoffs is a little tougher to do. Opponents will dig down a little deeper on their PKs, pressure the points just a little more. The power play is not going to look like it does now.

If you didn't catch the post game Blueshirts Bar chat, you should. It was surprisingly good. Giannone pressed Vally on playing 2 on 1s because of the Stutzle goal, and Vally told interesting stories of yore about his experiences and different teams' strategies and approaches to defending 2 on 1s depending on the goalie's capabilities.

Even though our bottom lines don't score, you can't underestimate how hard they play in the offensive zone. They have been spending a lot of time in there and that is more valuable than you might think. It keeps the opponents from scoring in our end and softens up and tires the opposing D.

Since when does any team expect scoring from their bottom six other than chipping in once in a while. I think our 3rd and 4th lines are probably one of the reasons we have done so well this season. And those bottom six are why we are right up there as one of the league leaders in hits.
I dont often disagree with you, but come PO time the bottom 6 have to be able to score more than "once in a while". usually top 6 on both teams cancel out, and the team that has a better bottom 6, are the difference makers in close games. The often used terms are called balance and depth.
I mean who "expects" players like Fast, Goodrow, or Yani freaking Gourde to score? But, when they do, its HUGE, right?
Right now, we don't have ANYBODY in bottom 6, that KNOWS HOW TO, put the puck in the net. Rooney? Haha, make me laugh.

Jarry Samsonov Ullmark Andersen

those are the guys most likely you’d have to go thru to get to the Eastern Final.

Some combo of those guys have to beat Shesterkin 4 of 7?

He might be the best player in the league right now quite frankly at the most important position
