He’s 21 and could be a 40 goal power forward who has delivered big moments in the playoffs already

It will take a long time to find a guy like him

A top pair dman can be acquired in other ways - trading a 1st or top prospect in a package
Who and where ?

A Schmaltz + Bjugstad deal where we move Domi, whether that’s to Utah or a third team, would be a fantastic move by the Leafs.

I’d also look into a move around Robertson for Krebs.

Ship Pacioretty to Detroit for future considerations.

Knies - Matthews - Schmaltz
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Jarnkrok - Krebs - Nylander
Lorentz - Bjugstad - Steeves
Reaves
You sound like dubas too many forward trades we need defencenmen

Well, I would argue that we are a win-now team, as in we have a three or four year window opening now. So, if we don't agree on that we won't agree on what moves we should make.

Almost every rental or TDL with term s a player in decline. That's how this works. Having Brayden decline to being a decent 3C with intangibles might work out well on a team that has five or six other 20+ goal scorers. Luke can decline here also if he gives Mo a partner.

My point, however, was that I would not overpay for them. What actual assets are we giving up in these proposals? Robertson? Niemela? 2nd? 4th? We also move out Kampf.

Our window is opening now, but is not only now. I am not interested in moving firsts, Cowan, Minten, Danford, AA, Hildeby, or Grebyenkin for rentals.
We need a really good dman to play with rielly Hes fell off seems like he’s on his retirement tour doesn’t even look like he cares

yeah, my concern is that we have brought in d-men that we hoped would fit with Mo and it hasn't worked. Tanev for example. I like Luke because we know it works

Tanev works with rielly Hes just better with mccabe cause he actually plays defence that’s the problem we’re going to have no matter who we put with him hopefully whoever we do get is close enough in impact to tanev

The guy's been in the league for 5 years now, I think at some point the #2 draft pick pedigree ceases to matter. He's still young and good but at 7m for a winger I'm not sure you're getting much surplus value with his production as you would with Cowan's ELC.

If we're bringing in another high-paid forward on a long-term deal, I'd much rather we spend the money on Bennet in UFA.

Yeah I’m in on Bennett too but what I’m suggesting is if you removed the disappointment of Lafreniere being a former first overall; $7 million isn’t the craziest price tag. And I think he keeps getting better too. He’s taken a big step back this year but he’s a year older than Knies. And I wouldn’t think Knies is anywhere close to tapped out. Nor would it be surprising if he was signed to a long deal and flirted in the $6 million plus range.

It’s not like we can trade the pending ufas so I guess we gotta trade him right ?

To get value, you need to give value but like i said in case to get a young top pair dman, not trading knies just for fun but if you can fix #1 Dman hole for next generation...

If it would be that easy to find top pair D, leafs wouldn't looking for it for like what 15 years and probably even more

Dahlin is one of the best defenceman in the league lol, Reilly isn't nor has ever been in the same stratosphere
Right! That’s an insane take on dahlin him and rielly share nothing

Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Reaves ect.

Lots of misspent money in the forward group to free up first before I touch Knies for cap balancing
Spare parts though I mean you can move all of that and then our 1st and a lesser prospect I guess but I don’t think you get anything really good with that

The Leafs can make the Brayden Schenn/Luke Schenn thing work. They'd need about 1.375M retention from either the Blues or the Preds, someone to take on Domi, Reaves on Waivers and Jarnkork not activated until the playoffs.

Neither of these guys are the players they were in 2023 and you get them for term. That might work out or it might be the same mistake kicking them in the nuts for 3 more years. Opening up the wallet and mortgaging the future is fine but not for aging assets in hard decline. That can't be the best deal out there.

Let's go for the brother duos.
B Schenn with retention for Minten plus 1st plus Domi
L Schenn 50 percent retention for Timmins plus 3rd round pick
B Tanev 50 percent retained for Holmberg plus Hildeby

Domi isn't going anywhere. Good chance Reaves goes into the Simmonds role (waivers but sticks around). Jarnkrok is practicing so I don't think he's going to sit out for another 2 months unless he regresses.

If Treliving can make it work for a good deal then I'll give him full props but I have serious doubts it can work for a few different reasons.

Watching the game tonight, still interested in a package with Chicago for Donato and Murphy, and absolutely no interest in Seth Jones. A bunch of hassle and wasted cap space, and very not much worth either.
