I agree, I align with the people wanting to put Nash with the weakest of our top three centers. I'd put him with Miller and Hagelin.

Kreider-Stepan-St. Louis
Zuccarello-Brassard-Stempniak
Hagelin-Miller-Nash
Lombardi-Moore-Fast
Glass
This is what I have too. (Except I'm resigned to Glass).

Not a fan of this at all. Not that it's a bad contract or anything, because I'm sure its less than 1 mil and only 1 year, but it just seems like a typical reclamation project that won't be part of our success / part of the solution going forward / part of the future. If guys like Kristo / Miller / Lindberg / Haggerty / Fast are going to be a part of this team's future, they need to be able to compete for and earn a spot. I'd be very disappointed if Haggerty / Fast / Kristo shine in camp but return to the AHL because Stempniak was given a spot without earning it.

Hopefully he becomes the 13th F or beats out Lombardi for the 4th line spot.

I'd much rather let one of Kristo / Haggerty / Fast battle for the spot. Hopefully, if one of them really shines in camp, they'll give them the spot and Stempniak / Lombardi can compete for the 4th line / 13th F spot.

Basically, I just want the spot to be EARNED; not given to a player because of what he did years and years ago. We shall see.

Perhaps this is just one of the dominoes falling en route to the Drouin trade.

I don't understand.
Last year he was 12-23-34 in 73
The year before he was 9-23-32 in 47 (lockout)
The year before he was 14-14-28 in 61
The year before he was 19-19-38 in 82.

For reference in that same time Pouliot was:
Last year he was 15-21-36 in 80
The year before he was 8-12-20 in 34 (lockout)
The year before he was 16-16-32 in 74
The year before he was 13-17-30 in 79.

That's consistently excellent depth production and in all likelihood we're getting him for a bargain price. I agree with Jonathan I wish this was for two years.

You can't rely on the prospects to fill the holes. We just got to the final. We have to make sure we have the depth players to go along with our core.

You can't just sign nobody and hand over every hole to a prospect. What if they don't work out? What if THEY get hurt? Then who are you going to play? The Ryan Bourque's of the world?

The guy made 2.5M last year, knowing our cap space, there's no way we signed him for that.. so it's likely we got him on a pretty good bargain, on a 1 year deal. what's to complain about?

This!. The less kids we have to use the better, because if someone gets hurt, then those same kids could be ready to jump into that vacant spot.

Nash
MSL
MZA

Am I missing something? Why would you move any of those guys to LW to placate Lee Stempniak?

has nothing to do with stempniak...you considering moving one of them to LW so all 3 can play with offensive centers in stepan or brassard, instead of their offense being somewhat wasted on a line with miller or lombardi or dom moore

if none of them are comfortable on LW, thats different...but i think your best lineup has kreider, nash, msl and mza as the 4 wingers on the top 2 lines

I like it!

purely speculation here...but with the 3 arbitration hearings coming up in the next 10 days starting with Kreider on wed. I gotta wonder if slats has the framework for extensions with all 3 guys in place and therefore knows exactly how much cap space is left...otherwise why not wait another week till the RFAs are signed

*Averages* 637 games. 341 points. --> 43.9 pts/82. If you're going to say he doesn't average 40+/year because you are not defining a year as 82 games that's fine if you like misrepresenting numbers I suppose.

Clearly someone is going to move to LW. We're not going to have 4 good RW and 2 good LW and just overplay the lesser 2 LW.

Yes he would average more than 40 if he played every game. He hasn't done that much in his career. To assume he would do that next season is reaching given his prior history. That being said I do LOVE this signing.

We have to sign Brassard, Kreider, Zucc and Moore (? maybe).. I can't see it being much.

I hope you're right... I just want to see Brass and Zucc signed long term. Just hope that Slats isn't thinking arb.for both. I might just be paranoid but being a fan of this team for a while has made me so.

Zucc will sign long term, I can't say the same about Brassard 100%

But the 4th line provides offense too. Boyle and Moore arent you're average 4th liners in that they both had offensive roles not too long ago.

Stempniak is not just a scorer. Hes versatile. Playing with Moore will give them a chance to make plays and defend in key spots.

If Lombardi plays RW on the 4th line, then Miller is centering the 3rd line..

We'll have to wait and see.

we have our Poulliet 2.0
plays both wings and is a freakin' RIGHT handed shot.
streaky scorer but has a few 20+ goal seasons to his name.
AV is probably gonna play him up and down the lineup throughout the season.

most likely, our line up is gonna look suit:
Stepan, Brassard, Lombardi, Moore
Nash, Kreider, Hagelin, Glass
MSL, Zuke, Stempniak, Miller

13th= Fast? Nash/Stempniak can flip wings.

it can't be much due to our lack of cap space. my guess is like $1.5 mil

Anyone think we could be giving him a base salary with the potential to earn bonuses that would end up as a cap hit next season? I remember reading somewhere that Sather or Gorton said they offered that type of a contract to a player although said player ultimately signed elsewhere.
