I don't think Kreiders game and Pouliots are similar at all. Pouliot isn't a straight ahead skater and Kreider uses his size on the forecheck way more. Nash is really more similar to Pouliot than Kreider is.

Poo had hands and Kreider just tapes his stick to his arms I think. Really hope he works on that aspect of his game it's abysmal and will hold him back.

super happy with this. guy can still play and that contract is beautiful. going to be a tight squeeze for the free agents, but this is worth a little extra fiddling.

No he's got hands.. no datsyuk but he had hands. I still remember that dangle he did on the flyers.

Also it's pretty hard to stick handle when your skating 100MPH

poo was at his best imo when he was a north south skater. i can see kreider being a good fit on zucc/brass line but i can see kreider being a good fit on pretty much any line.

He's maybe dangled once or twice but in tight areas with the puck bouncing around in defenders feet his hands are horrid. Has great hand-eye though. That is just his major weakness it's easy to improve though and I think he will.

Amazing how signing Pouliot last year continues to pay dividends.

Don't think players around the league were not aware of his situation: player with disappointing year comes to NY hoping to rebuild his career and parlay success into a long term contract somewhere. It works,

Stempniak is hoping to do the same thing.

Will this myth die already? Pouliot had a great 2012-13.

The only thing unique about Pouliot's season with the Rangers is he got noticed.

Yeah go back to the thread where we signed him, a handful of us knew the potential he had to impress and contribute. The rest of the people were like LAWL OMG THE REST OF THE LEAGUE GOT BETTER AND WE REPLACED CLOWE WITH POULIOT EWWW GROSS EWW

I don't think what he said is about actual performance, but reputation. It's not a stretch to say that last offseason, Pouliots reputation was at the lowest point it's ever been.

Stempniak is closer to Fedotenko than Pouliot.

A couple interesting notes...

He was the #2 forward in Calgary when it came to TOI/game last season.

He played both PK and PP minutes in Calgary. Likely he'll just be a PK guy here unless there is an injury.

As a matter of fact, he's always been a PP and PK guy for Calgary, which might be an indication of why they're so bad. Lucky for us, he's an above average 3rd liner and shouldn't be asked to do much more than that here.

Good deal all in all. Stempniak can do a lot of things. Forward group is very small though--with a few notable exceptions.

This is exactly why I'm not as overjoyed at this signing as everyone else is. Don't get me wrong, he's a quality player on a great deal (if the numbers turn out to be true), but we just lost the SCF primarily due to the Kings wearing us down IMO. I was hoping to see the forward corps get bigger this offseason - and instead they got smaller.

So, while Lombardi and Stempniak are high value signings, they don't address the problem. Which is why, all things being equal, I would've much preferred P. Mueller and Booth. The increase in speed is a positive, but I fear the team will still continue to have trouble against the Kings and Bruins of the league. We still have a couple of contracts left - hopefully we can use them to get Hayes and one of the two guys I mentioned. (And then free up a spot by dealing someone like Kristo for a pick.)

This is a myth. The Kings beat us because they have a phenomenal team. Henrik's play masked the fact that we got significantly outplayed in at least three out of five games. Anyone who improves the overall quality of the forward core is a good addition, regardless of style.

You make some very good points, but why would we deal Kristo for a pick? He can play in the AHL. He's not holding up a spot...

Agree. The Kings one for many reasons, the biggest of which being that they were an incredibly deep team who executed almost perfectly.

Don't knee-jerk to follow last year's champions, even when you're the team that lost to them. You never win trying to be a different team.

Just waiting for Edmonton to throw 4m at him now.

Nmw is a done deal. This is awesome, 900k is dirt cheap.

Just further proof how terrible or beat is.

Brooks and Dreger break it last night. Gross can't confirm it until the team tweets it

Get some real sources you bum.

Cap hit is BEAUTIFUL.

Must've wanted to play here if we got him THAT low.
