Brooks is an idiot and that figure is fantastic. I wish we'd gotten Stempniak for two or three years at that price.

I am a bit annoyed that all our players in that mold that do well for us constantly moves. We need to find a few players that are prepared to settle in for those roles.

That's impossible. We are not giving 4 year contracts to unproven or risky players, and once they succeed, they aren't going to play for $1m when they can get $4m.

Many players are "prepared to settle in for those roles", but if we refuse to lock them in, they would be stupid to keep resigning for low pay.

Maybe Poo could've been had on a 4 year $6 million contract a year ago, but how many of us supported giving him that?

The management figures it can avoid the risk of locking someone in by having a turnover of players who are risky, but the scouts have faith in.

Wow, $900 is damn cheap. On the trade board, people were saying he's worth $2-2.5. Maybe they are wrong, but he is really good for the money he's getting.

How the **** did we get this guy for 900K?.. other teams had alot of space.. wow

He is originally from NY I believe and unlike some of the players we lost who wanted a large payday, maybe Stempniak wants to win so he took less money. His numbers should increase this year especially if he is playing with Brass and Zucc, he knows Lombardi and Ulf so it was probably just a good fit for him. I figured he would have gotten 1.2-1.5, at that price we can probably sign another veteran 4th liner at league minimum after we re-sign our RFAs.

Miller is not centering our 2nd line. He is the 3rd line center (IF he makes the team)

MSL is not going to be on our 3rd line.

Brassard is not centering our 3rd line.

You write an awful lot to make a simple point.

I disagree with you - and I think you contradicted yourself here. You specifically stated in a previous post after you set lines with Stepan as the 3C - when someone said Stepan wasn't going to center our third line - you made it a point to emphasize who ignorant that person was because there are no numbered lines on this team and AV runs 4 lines. Why would you be so adamant about Miller not being our 2nd line C after saying that?

Yeah true, born in West Seneca and he's played with Lombardi and knows Ulf. but still.. I find it very hard to believe this guy signed for 600K less than Tanner glass did! .. Wut!?

In this scenario I would switch Fast and Stempniak.. Stempniak is a 30-40 point player, you don't get that production from your 4th line.

Yeah but I don't look at it as a traditional 4th line. Lombo-Moore-Stemp have had seasons in which they all surpassed 40 points, sometimes even 50. It is a matter of ice-time too, but it makes for a hell of a 4th line.

That said if the kids don't make it, you have the likes of Glass and Mueller as everyday players. Completely changes the look of the team.

Some fans have to realize that the Rangers don't run a traditional 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line, 4th line. It's more like 1st line, 2A line, 2B line, 4th line. So even though some line scenario's have Zucc on the "3rd" line RW or MSL as the "3rd" line RW it's really interchangeable and the 2A/2B lines will get similar minutes.

That's what we call depth.

Why is he an idiot? I thought that was pretty funny. In fact, I forget he was even on Pittsburgh, thats how invisible he was in the playoffs.

Still doesnt make it a bad depth signing.

We always have 1 mystery overpayment... be it Glass this year, Pyatt, Boogard (RIP), and Brashear it seems like Slats loves to overpay for a 4th liner the last 5 or so years.

What are his possession numbers like?

They're good not great. Plus, as -31- pointed out, he sometimes performs very well on the man advantage. Let's hope we're catching him on an up year in that regard. There's nothing to dislike about this pickup.

Can someone interepet this for us less stats-minded people? I haven't wrapped my mind around advanced statistics in hockey yet.

The cf% rel column is positive for the last three years. That means his team gets better when he's on the ice.

**** yes. Really wanted him 2 years ago. Really wanted him at the deadline a couple of times. Very happy about this.

Rangers are done for the summer. Lock up the RFAs, then it's less than 2 months until training camp.

BTW this guy was the reason that Hugh Jessiman posted numbers in college since he was his linemate. Lee Stempniak had a large hand in the Rangers drafting Hugh.

This signing makes me feel a lot better about this season. The depth on this team is probably equal to last years now even with losing Poo and Boyle.

I'm slightly worried about the foot-speed of D. Boyle in replacing Stralman, but I truly hope he'll help on the PP and be a severe upgrade over Richards.

Time will tell, but my fears are being eased with these past two signings. I'm a big fan of Lombardi's too and really think he'll fit nicely on our 4th line. I just can't stand Glass and hope he never sees the ice. Would have preferred to just re-up Carcillo for 800K.
