Confirmed with Link: Rangers sign Cody McLeod to a one year deal

I was really excited at the end of the season, 1 for all the picks and incoming young talent and 2 for not having to ever see Mcleod ever skate in this jersey again. Now the crappy feeling from the 2nd draft day will really linger longer.

What makes you think this is an AV problem? Maybe it's a FO problem. At some point we can't continue to pin every issue on Vigneault. And We don't know what Quinn will do, so to make a suggestion either way is premature.

Sensible.

Although I would point out that, despite the feeling that this kind of role is disappearing, every organization in the NHL has one of these players. So it’s not our front office, it’s every front office.

Which leads me, as always, to wonder what they know with their exponentially larger amount of information that we don’t.

I wouldn’t nearly be as annoyed if we signed some other plug. McLeod really pissed me off and his play in that Nashville game was unforgivable. He was claimed to add one element to this team and he couldn’t even do that.

This isn’t a tanking issue either because I can live with that for this year. It’s 100% a Cody McLeod issue.

Sam Rosen on opening night ‘’McLeod dangles around defensemen he goes to the circle, he shoots, top shelf!. What a shot. Rangers up 1-0.

Me too. This move has turned the usually reasonable into k27 clones.

Yeah and if AV were still here, you’d have a gripe.

He isn’t.
I'm just curious as to why you're so confident that Quinn won't over-use McLeod. We have no way of knowing, no frame of reference. Maybe Quinn loves goons and now that he's out of college he's ready to go to town.

Can you envision a scenario where the rookie coach feels obligated or pressured to play this veteran that the team has signed? I can totally see that.

We've established that the love of goons is an organizational issue. The fascination with tough guys lies at the top. How do we know the organization won't try to force McLeod in there, knowing the rookie coach probably won't push back? How do we know they weren't forcing some of these guys on AV?

I don't know, you just seem awfully sure that there's no way this could turn into a stupid situation with lots of wasted minutes, and I'm not clear why you're so steadfast in your belief.

Ranger fans: "Too much skill. We need toughness!"
Also Ranger fans: "Ugh, McLeod doesn't have any skill"

I won’t be bothered if this signing helps the team drop in the standings without being detrimental to locker-room chemistry or player motivation, but I have a hard time believing that finding a locker room sweetheart with physicality who actually plays hockey is difficult enough to find that management would need to sign a pure enforcer in lieu of that. I don’t think that pure skill from top-to-bottom is necessary, but everyone should have at least a drop of skill in their toolbox.

We somehow managed to lose the offseason despite doing nothing. Here's hoping he makes quite a name for himself in Hartford.

It was awesome that we all debated the usual goon life raft of "DETERRENCE!" for the billionth time only to watch McLeod play his 2nd game in that disaster piece in Nashville without throwing a punch.

He didn't even clench his fists. It is very he likely donated to the Peace Corps in the middle of that game.

Came here to see ridiculous overreactions. Was not disappointed.
The truth right here...haha

They aren't competing... character guy can use a job... its $650k for 1 year... might get to see some occasional fun action this year. I'm cool with it.

Best case scenario, some team wants some grit for playoffs and gives a 5-7th rd pick for him at TDL.

They didn’t bring in a player development coach just to have him and the front office overplay a guy who frankly isn’t very good.

Why are you so confident that he will get tons of ice time?

The point is McLeod is a bad player. Don't sign bad players. It doesn't matter what the contract is. If he's such a great leader and locker room guy then hire him to be a coach.
