I wasn't for signing him, and I don't believe in signing players to whatever amount it takes to sign them. That's how we got stuck with Staal and Girardi and Redden.
Even without Shattenkirk, Smith is not a lock for 2nd pair minutes. I'm not into paying third pair defenders upwards of 4 million per and giving out NTCs like candy.
Same people complaining over nonsense
Good signing
All of whom received contracts that were longer and more expensive/year than what Smith got. To put this deal alongside those is silly.

What? Who's going to play over him? Holden and DeAngelo? Not likely

Yup. People get upset over everything.
Holden played more than Smith in 6 of 12 playoff games. What? Who's going to play over him? Holden and DeAngelo? Not likely
It does get brutal in here sometimes.Yup.
Lias Andersson!? This is the end of the world - worse than McIlrath!
Chytil instead of whatever pet prospect I had? This is every worse than Lias! We'll never compete again!
Ruff as an assistant coach!? Just disband the franchise already!
It's so tiring. Every little thing is the worst move in the world to half this board.

Do you think the management would offered him this contract and view him as bottom 6? If they don't, why do you? They obviously liked what the saw with the Skjei-Smith pairing which was a solid top 4 combo.Even without Shattenkirk, Smith is not a lock for 2nd pair minutes. My only issue now is investing all this money in Smith while still employing a coach who loses him on the bench

Sorry, I don't know what the word and means apparently.Yes and even if Holden is played with McDonagh, that still leaves Smith getting 2nd pairing minutes.
Unless we think DeAngelo is going to get those minutes instead

We have a very large userbase, which is a great thing. Every move is going to have a small subset of users become a large vocal majority.
Filter out the noise, respond in kind to people who deserve responses, or don't respond. Basically the only way to navigate this place.
