So we gave 4 years and a NTC and nearly 4.5M to a #4 defensemen because he has good advanced stats.

This guy is a dumb player. Too many penalties, doesn't produce any offense, just as bad offensively as Staal, and thats really saying something. Defensively, he's only about average. He's not a shutdown defensemen at all, don't care what the stats say. This guy does not defend at a very high level, an average level, and that might even be generous. This was a player who was scratched for the Wings, they didn't want to pay him what he wanted, but we did. The worst defense in the league wouldn't pay this guy, but we do. #4 defensemen at best.

Gorton continues to make bad decisions. What an awful deal.

I now think this is a solid deal. Great move, Grotains.

Who gives a **** what Detroit would do?

When you consider farm system, current on ice product, and management and coaching staff, they're the worst organization in the league right now.

It tells me Smith is good if that joke of a team didn't want him.

Wings fans laughing because we signed "Girardi 2.0"

You're signing Girardi 1.0 on Saturday, have fun.

Anaheim fans still think Fowler is better than Manson.

The opinions of a fanbase are worth less than ****.

Especially if they watch the player a lot because they form biases and play favourites.

They've watched him for 300 games, we've watched him for 30 games.

Somehow watching Girardi for 5000 games didn't produce a unified opinion here either.

Not for nothing, you're also on here calling for a Russian kid to step off a plane and take the 1st RD spot, when you spent several years saying Girardi had to play b/c no one we had could fill that role.

This is what Detroit would pay him. I guess a few tough plays in the playoffs gets him nearly an extra million, an extra year and a NTC.

What Detroit would pay him and what he's worth are two different things. I've said all along that he wouldn't sign for under 4, and probably 4.25, and was pretty close. I bet someone would've paid him 4.5+ on the open market.

Detroit traded him because he had value and because they weren't going to get him signed.

And I'm laughing at their awful team and terrible organization.

Detroit fans told us he'd be awful and they were dead wrong. Well, most of them. The smarter ones liked him.
They also said he would be awful for us last season when we acquired him. Dead wrong on that one.

Their fans have nothing to do with the decisions their management make.

I don't think anyone said he'd be awful. They told us that he's okay, but is very error prone, and isn't actually good at anything, despite having pretty decent tools. I'd say what they told us was true.

What was so good about Smith? You think he's an elite defensemen? We are talking about a 0 offensively, as bad offensively as Staal, he better be Hjalmarsson defensively to get what he did, and he's not. He's like an average defensive player.

I think Bereglazov has the better season.

They also said he was misused and put into a role(s) where he couldn't excel. Who cares? Did he show you something as a NYR or not?

Great.

Doesn't mean he's worth an overpayment because one team would do so.

We need a guy that can eat minutes and not be a total ****ing disaster. He was more than steady in his 30 games here.

Let McD, Deangelo, and Skjei bring the offense.
