Gorton could not find such a return for Nash in the offseason. The rumors were that the returns were pennies on the dollar.
Nash had yet another good post season thus far
Just to make sure that we are on the same page here, his yearly salary will be $3.9? Try doubling that. He is not going to get less than Trouba.
.
No, what I said was if you take the $3.9M from a Nash trade +
the $3.5M from a Girardi trade that equals Shattenkirks salary this year. Subtract the Girardi buyout savings to $2.5M in the next two years, but then all of nash's contract drops off
The math does not take into consideration resigning some of the forwards who will be coming up.
I am aware. There are other roster moves that can allow for that to happen. Stepan would have to go, McDonagh can be traded before he hits 30 years old, Zucc can be traded or his contract will simply expire. The money can be found.
I am well aware that there are other cap implications like Vesey, Miller, Zib,
Skjei, etc...
That is going to be around $6m in dead cap space.
It can also be seen as a $6M savings because the $11.2M number has now been shrunk. I agree, a 50% retained trade makes more sense, but if that option isn't available you have to realistically consider what can actually be done with these guys
