I don't want to be a Debbie Downer about the signing of Panarin, in fact I was rooting for it to happen all along.......but why does it seem like we overpay for players that want to come to our Rangers? Shouldn't there be a discount included here? Let me see..... Marty St. Louis wanted here, and we got reamed, Shattenkirk wanted to come here and you see how that's presenting itself and now the Breadman, when we have perfectly produced Bagels already. Am I wrong in saying we are outbidding ourselves?

Not really worried about cap space. Staal, Lundqvist, Smith, etc. all come off in time to sign our kids. Trying to compete while they’re on ELCs is a smart move.

long term that might work...but we now need to clear cap space for the next 2 years while those guys are still on the books

I'm asking this in all seriousness without a ounce of arrogance or condescension which I'm sure it'll sound like...but how old are you? How many times have you lived through this exact scenario only to have it completely kill us. When has this ever worked...like literally. Hell... Not just for us but anyone....

36, and i did get to see the late 90s, early 2000’s, but especially the late 2000’s. I just don’t see the exact parallels to Holik, Gomez, Drury, etc.

This is more like Gaborik or Nash. They worked out to varying degrees. There’s some downside, but there’s upside too.

To not be happy at all? Even if you fear the downside, you’re gonna get a lot of happy moments out of this. This is Gaborik not Gomez.

While I do not share that opinion, I share the basic idea that if they are going to do this, they may as well commit to it. It likely means losing some kids to a cap crunch, so they may as well utilize some of them in other win now moves by trade before the cap crunch materializes.

a discount doesn't mean free. panarin took less $$ to come here

I get what you're saying...and of course he's a great player. My issue here is I felt like we were on our way....and then..to pull a hard right for just no reason whatsoever...it's aggravating and horrible.

They must really be banking on the us tv deal.

I mean, he took $1 million less than he was offered with NYI. Thats $7 million over the course of the contract. Well, $858k less and $6.006 million less to be exact. How much of a discount did you want?

Yes.

Columbus and the Islanders both offered substantially more money, so not in this instance, we did not outbid ourselves.

To be fair man, they did say that getting Kakko changed everything. I don't think they are expecting him to come in and be a 35 point rookie. I think they have massive expectations of him and where this team is going. I mean, Kravtsov is an absolute unit. Trouba. Fox.

I think that on April 8th, if we were planning on pulling a hard right it would have required going through dirt roads in a Toyota Corolla. After getting that pick, it was like the roads were freshly paved and we could fly down them in a Mustang.

So beleskey and Kreider totals like 5 plus along with the 777k left after you give trouba 8 mil equals around 6 and a half mil.

Theyve got 7 D on the cap their already not counting Tony

6 and a halfmil split up between Tony/Lemieux/seems about right maybe another move still

Depending on who is traded he's way down the depth chart.

When you've got Panarin, Kakko and Kravtsov, with Chytil as the other potential top six wing, you don't commit to Buch. You've also got Howden, drafted Henriksson and have an emerging Barron. Lias is easily moved in the right deal under those circumstances.

And with my obvious displeasure about the apparent overpaying, it might not be overpaying with rising cap space and rising salaries. As long as he busts his ass and does what he can do......I am okay with it, I guess. Cant blame me for the anxiousness about it, given our history. We seem to ALWAYS get screwed with long term contracts. At least he's 28 and NOT already 31.

Is there supposed to be a Buchnevich after that second "/"?
