I don't think a pick can be the target anymore. This team has decided that the window is now open, so you need to find an asset that can contribute now or more near term. A non-top 5 2020 or later draft pick isn't going to help this team soon enough. Kreider needs to be flipped for a young, upside 2C.

I don't think they need to be looking at all picks as something that needs to contribute now, they need to continue getting picks that will come in later and keep the team competitive

The talk was that Kreider's money would go towards paying for Panarin, so I don't think that's changed at all.

I'm also not totally convinced that the Rangers aren't at least still willing to listen on Buch.

Which is fine, but I have a hard time thinking of a better way to turn Buchnevich into a top line player than to put him with Panarin.

Been saying for a while that he seems like a great #3 on a top unit, having him with Panarin and Zibanejad certainly does that.

Would you trade Buchnevich and shatty @50% retained plus one of Rykov/Hajek for Nylander right now?

I for one believe Chytil is the guy for 2C he’s going to take a step.

Not sure I get that one, they are going to waste a year or two of Panarin's prime to continue to rebuild where now, plus Trouba too, it's unlikely they even end up in early lottery, or lottery position?

we have to get rid of a bunch of cap hits now...there is literally nothing they can do for this year but let things play out and see how good the kids are...there is no adding more guys to win now. there is no cap space

Not happy. Not whatsoever.

I understand being nervous about the money or even slightly displeased, but I don’t understand how you can’t be happy at all, and excited too.

The objective is winning and we just got a player who will help us do a lot of that in the next half decade.

would we be inclined to send away someone to help move shatty ?

even with retained $$

Nothing really new to report on the Shattenkirk front.

I don't get the sense the Rangers would retain and send a player for Shattenkirk. I think they'd just send him down before they'd pursue that.

What does this even mean?
Guys like Drury, Gomez, Redden, etc were always quite overrated players who you could tell benefitted from the systems of the teams they played on. Gaborik on the other hand, if you watched him play was clearly a talented player that didn't need to benefit from the system. Nash was the only other player since the Jagr days that had a similar level of skill (Nash was great for the Rangers before the concussions came). Point being, since Jagr, the only highly talented elite players the Rangers had were Gaborik and Nash. Panarin joins that list. He is less likely to fail then the other FA signings the Rangers have had for that reason.

Rebuild is a subjective word and theres no true definition of the time frame needed to complete one or a light bulb going off saying "we did it!, its over!"

I would say going into this years draft they had made plenty of strides moving out vets and stocking up on picks and prospects but they needed to bring a top flight elite prospect through trade or moving up in the draft. When they hit the lotto and got Kakko, they took a huge step in the rebuild. That wasnt a given by any means so that definitely accelerates the process.

Then the Trouba deal came along and the fact that hes an established vet but still very young adds to it. I feel that they have enough stocked in their system to not say the rebuild is officially over with but they are ready to turn the corner and start competing.

Adding Panarin definitely signifies on the surface that they are done rebuilding but they will still be a developing team that continues to look for young talent and adding to a young core.

I do not think the rebuild is over by any means. This is just a shot in the arm and will be especially in 2-3 years.

Still have K'Andre and other picks not named Kravtsov/Kakko/Fox

Yes and centers make more and are mire valuable for a reason.

Wings can do that. Will they here? We’ll see. Who’s our 2 center that’s gonna be a 50 goal scorer because of Panarin?

Who said anything about being a 50 goal scorer? I’m talking about Panarin putting up 30 goals with 30-50 assists (depending on whether he’s first line or second line).

how are you fitting nylander's salary?

I believe we have the makings of a 100-pt team, but I question whether we have enough "skilled-grit" to win the Stanley Cup. Lots of flashy Euro talent, great. But we also need the big skilled checking forwards like Patrice Bergeron and Ryan O'Reilly. Hell, even pain-in-the-a$$ forwards like Marchand are needed come playoff time.

Look how the Blues won the Cup. They had skill, yes. But they also pounded San Jose (and to a lesser extent, Boston) into submission and won the Stanley Cup.

I could be wrong but I don't think panarin and mika will play together...I think they are gonna spread out the wealthy...mika on the first line with either kakko or kratskov. panarin on the 2nd line with the other. spreads out the talent, creates matchup problems and gives both top kids a guy to play with to help their development

Those assists are on goals yeah?

He can’t play w Krav, Buch, Kakko and Chytil (probably) right? Kreider is getting dealt for sure now. Strome? Namestnikov?

We’ll see. I would LOVE to be wrong

Yes i still think we have a ways to go. On D and with some more character player up front. Down the middle we are weak up top and we arent completely sure what we have in goal the next 2+ years either.

I'm asking this in all seriousness without a ounce of arrogance or condescension which I'm sure it'll sound like...but how old are you? How many times have you lived through this exact scenario only to have it completely kill us. When has this ever worked...like literally. Hell... Not just for us but anyone....

Soooo the current money covered trouba and Panarin.

I gotta probably find 11 mil to pay DeAngelo Nylander and Lemieux.

I still gotta move out Strome 3 mil namestnikov 4 mil and then Kreider (4.65) at the least.

If I can’t I probably have to buy out smith as well if I can’t move one of Strome/Namestnikov

looking toward next season...we already moved out Vesey, I think its a given that we will move Kreider and you probably also need to move names or buch to get rid of the cap hits.

Vesey, Kreider and Names last year combined for 56g, 62a, 118 pts....so thats alot of offense going out. panarin likely replaces the production of vesey and kreider...but we are still looking at kids to pick up alot of offense that has been moved out just to get back to even with a terrible offense.

how good we are this year is still tied to how good the kids are...
