Elite winters can elevate their surroundings. There’s no way in heck that Radek Bonk averages 60 points in two seasons without Marian Hossa next to him, or that Viktor Kozlov becomes a 70 point player without Pavel Bure next to him. Those might be only a few examples, but they’re examples I know well.
Yes and centers make more and are mire valuable for a reason.

Wings can do that. Will they here? We’ll see. Who’s our 2 center that’s gonna be a 50 goal scorer because of Panarin?

In a couple years when the new usa tv deal pumps the cap up again this contract wont even be a discussion.

Just curious if this means CK is traded this summer or kept as an own rental to help support kids on the 2nd line.

Would love to get a first and change for him.

I’m more inclined to trade Namestnikov now and keep Ck20. Make a push this year for the playoffs. Ou never know what can happen if you get in.

Would prefer this also and maybe try and move one of the anchor D contracts. A top 6 with both Panarin and Kreider would be very good.

Just one interesting thing in my mind. THIS signing takes a TON of pressure off of Kakko. Panarin is the man right now, and it lets Kakko and Kravtsov come in with a bit less pressure to perform from the fans and other. Get acclimated more, and Kravtsov gets to learn from one of the best in the world. Bitch about money but there are a ton of intangible things that come with this signing.

disagree 100% that this means the rebuild is over...this is them picking Panarin @ $11.6 mil over Kreider @ $7 mil...if we extended kreider for 7 years no one would say that the rebuild is over. upgrading 1 spot for not that much difference in money doesn't change the overall plan. again gorton and JD decided that panarin fits into the plan they aren't scrapping the plan.

Looking at Capfriendly, we have $8,769,391 to sign Trouba, Buch, Lemieux and ADA. I can't imagine we're keeping Kreider unless Capfriendly got that number really wrong.

It just boggles my mind that we did this before most of our top prospects from the rebuild even set foot on NHL ice for the first time. We haven't even had a half season to see what we have in Kravtsov, Shesty, Fox, ect.

Obviously I hope that Panarin helps to boost the performance of guys like Chytil and Kakko, but it just seems like an itchy trigger finger type move.

Trade Namestnikov for a 4th round pick. Try your hardest to move Smith or Shatty with a good pick or added prospect to them to get their cap hit off the books. Not sure which team may fit that situation. Willing to take either of those guys cap hits on in a rebuilding situation for the added assets.

What this does for Mika I can’t even quantify. He put up 70 plus points with absolute trash on his wings half the year. The other half was with moparello

I think Mika takes a huge leap forward this year.

It also does so much for the Russian kids Kravtsov especially. Has a role model now to really show him what it takes to be a star.

The talk was that Kreider's money would go towards paying for Panarin, so I don't think that's changed at all.

I'm also not totally convinced that the Rangers aren't at least still willing to listen on Buch.

I don't think a pick can be the target anymore. This team has decided that the window is now open, so you need to find an asset that can contribute now or more near term. A non-top 5 2020 or later draft pick isn't going to help this team soon enough. Kreider needs to be flipped for a young, upside 2C.

I think the argument would be to sign neither of them and instead keep stockpiling draft picks for another year

These are truly the intangibles that gets lost when discussing pure salary/cap/term etc.

Love this move, and for all the reasons you posted above. Haven't been this excited for a new season in a while.

IS IT OCTOBER YET?!

Not sure I get that one, they are going to waste a year or two of Panarin's prime to continue to rebuild where now, plus Trouba too, it's unlikely they even end up in early lottery, or lottery position?
