Besides Kreider, Fox, Smith am I missing anyone? This has become a promising team. Move Shatty at the deadline and throw Fox in there and the future is bright.

Accelerate the rebuild. Try and compete, if not be true contenders at least still try, while the kids are on their ELCs.

With the hard cap it seems like one of the key things is to have key contributors on ELCs thus outperforming their cap hits. Going too slow and all the kids move onto higher paying deals and you could end up in cap hell without even winning a round (Toronto example there).

This is good. Elite talent, locked in. A few more moves should come to give more space. They're not going all in, this is the next step.

Oh to the Devils fan happy about this as if it's a bad deal, Hall is going to get 13m+ on his next deal easy. Take % of the cap this is and roll it up slightly for his Hart trophy bump and inflate it to match the rising cap when he signs.

So you propose that if they are in the playoffs they deal him at the deadline? You think that's the right now bc of asset management, to undercut the team down the stretch run and into the playoffs? Seriously? And you think Gorton has demonstrated this kind of attitude?

The right move with kreider would be/is to deal him this summer but you need another vet to insulate the 2nd line. I've said that repeatedly and all you come back with is whining about CK walking for peanuts or nothing. I get it, I dont want to give away assets either, but they also are not going to run 3 kids in their top 6 with just zib panarin and buch. I just dont see them doing that. I'd expect each of KK, VK and FC to be on different lines to start the season. They aren't putting two teenagers on the same line in the top 6 to start the season, and just bc FC turns 20 in september doesnt magically mean his game has matured.

I'm saying trade him now but if he hasn't re-signed by the trade deadline.... yeah bye Kreider. Regardless where we are in the standings. Kreider can fetch a 1st rounder. You don't let something like that walk for free.

Would have hoped for a cap hit between 10-11 but not overly concerned by a slight over payment. Wasnt confident a team that added trouba and kakko wud have been bad enough to be a bottom 5 team again anyways.

I don't think they brought over Shestyorkin and Kravtsov and landed on Kakko in hopes of another lottery pick. The catalyst was most probably landing #2. They aren't bringing over Shest and Kravtsov and signing Trouba to be basement dwellers again.

Your plan for the TDL does not align with anything that Gorton has demonstrated for his thought process. If it goes to the deadline, CK will not be traded for just futures without something else coming in to replace him at the time if this is a playoff team, which is very well may be. You demand your players to compete and battle, and if they do that and are a playoff team with all the additions they have made he isn't going to just chop a leg out from underneath the team at that time...

If you actually believe he would (not what you want him to do , but what he actually will do), then agree to disagree...

One’s a wing and the orher’s a 3C. I’m not convinced.
I didn't say I was either. But unless there another large move (trade) that will be made, that is how I am reading the tea leaves. Unless it's Strome, but to me he is a third line.

Well.

This team will sure look a whole lot different from last year.

Do people see Kreider gone this summer or at the deadline?

Zib centering 3 wings now? Cool

As far as I can tell we have 1 center

Elite winters can elevate their surroundings. There’s no way in heck that Radek Bonk averages 60 points in two seasons without Marian Hossa next to him, or that Viktor Kozlov becomes a 70 point player without Pavel Bure next to him. Those might be only a few examples, but they’re examples I know well.

What’s the buyout look like after year three? And, what is Gorton doing about the 2C?

So we stick Panarin with Chytil and one of Kakko/Kravtsov. Zibanejad with the other of Kakko/Kravtsov and Buchnevich (if he's still around). Chytil gets to play center between guys who are much better than anyone he's ever played with before and he grows from that. Filip's got a lot of skill too---the best way to bring it out is to play him with great players.

Summer would be best and I think it's more inline with what has been reported regarding CK20 not being in training camp without an extension.

I would be thrilled if this happened 2020 after seeing the kids progress for another year.

Instead of being thrilled I am cautiously optimistic.
I think this actually may work to our favor. Flat cap helps keep this number a little lower, and then if the cap balloons a bit after the USA tv deal then all that added money is used for our rfa kids while our elite veteran winger is locked in at a lower number. Remember the heart attacks with contract aavs on new deals even three years ago, and now we have players signing for eight figures regularly.
