Cuylle had 1+1 last night. Nothing for Mothman.

Korczak had 2A. Garand was the second star stopping 29/32 but gave up one late and took the L.
Is Korczak good at faceoffs? Is he a 2 way center Derek Stepan or more of a 1 way lack of defense but not a total liability Brassard? I'm a fan of his. I hope he can fix the center issues in the future for this team

He won 56% of his draws this year and is generally regarded as pretty good there. I have never seen anything that shows how well FO% in junior hockey translates to the pro game though so who knows.

He's certainly willing defensively but he's not going to win a Selke. Still kind of lacking physically IMO which may make it tough. I definitely think he'll need some of his offense to translate because I don't really see him thriving in a bottom six role.

He opened eyes and impressed last Training Camp... He's gotten even better. I don't see how he doesn't force his way onto the team

Depends on depth and his skating.

Hard to speculate when we don't know Drury's offseason plans. Are we keeping Blais? Motte? Rooney?

Lots TBD in the bottom 6.

Yep, really depends on what veteran players we have competing with him for those bottom six spots. And, feels like most years we have one or two guys we're expecting to come in and show well, that don't show at all, and vice versa. You never know if someone like Adam Edström comes in, having played the past few years in the SHL, and opens eyes. That would be unexpected but could happen.

Also, with respect to what Cuylle did in the AHL two seasons back, while it was a nice showing, it was in a year where they played only two others teams (and Bridgeport was awful) with watered-down rosters. We saw a bunch of our guys take big steps back this season in terms of production playing a "real" AHL schedule.

I think Cuylle can hang physically, but IMO he's still going to need some time to learn to play in space and really make quick, decisive plays with the puck. And even though he's big and strong the physicality will still be an adjustment, as well.

For reference, here's a full list of non-1st round, former CHLers who are currently in the NHL after skipping the AHL completely:

- Alex DeBrincat
- Ryan O'Reilly
- Wayne Simmonds
- Dominik Kubalik
- Milan Lucic

Is it possible Cuylle makes the team? Sure. But I wouldn't put any money on it because it is so rare for a player of hsi caliber to make that jump.

I think there is a difference between 'could he play in the NHL?' and 'should he play in the NHL?'. The answer to the former is probably yes. The latter is probably not quite yet.

I think getting him top-6 time in Hartford, with prime PP time as well would be good for his development. The team doesn't absolutely need him or Othmann to be rushed

Technically he did not skip the AHL, but I get your meaning.
Personally I'm in the camp of he probably could, but almost definitely shouldn't. Unless he sets camp on absolute fire I'd send him to the AHL. I'd make sure I sat down with him and explained exactly why and what the thinking was and what we want him to work on, I think that's a key. I don't know what was or wasn't explained to Kravtsov, and neither do any of you, except maybe Jovo because of his tele-empathic link with Vitali, but there shouldn't even be a chance that that is the problem going forward. COMMUNICATE.

Yeah, I don't count those few weeks last year since that was an anomaly. He wasn't even eligible under normal circumstances.

I think Cuylle is going to have to re-invent his game quite a bit before becoming an NHL player.
In what way? "Re-invent" seems a drastic term. If his current strengths can't make him a good pro, what is going to?

The way that he plays.

I don't think he needs to add things to his tool kit, it's going to be about utilizing his skill set in a way that he hasn't had to necessarily do so in Juniors. Kreider is a pretty good template to follow honestly, his money is going to be made in the trenches, not in sniping from 30 feet out.

If he can turn himself into a Marcus Foligno esque player, I'm thrilled with the outcome.

I am interpreting this as, the way he plays in juniors is more reminiscent of a "power sniper" type, which unless he gets much quicker or softer hands, will not work in the NHL. So he needs to play much more straight forward to be effective and be more of a physical grinder with a great shot. Yes?

Ah. Okay. The term "re-invent" threw me a bit. Yeah, he's going to need to discover what parts of his game work and which do not once he reaches the pros, and concentrate his efforts in the areas that translate best. You're probably right that he won't be able to just play the game the same way. I think that's pretty common with players coming up, and the successful ones do it.
