Cuylle is going to have a tough time cracking the roster I would think. We already know at least 7 wingers for the team:

Kakko, Lafreniere, Kreider, Panarin, Reaves, Hunt, Blais (you don't trade Buch for him and then pull the plug after a very small number of games). You've also got Goodrow and Chytil that can play the wing, depending on the center situation.

The last three are under control for next season. Blais is the one I'm most confident in being one of their 12 forwards. Hunt and Reaves could be spares.

Then you've got other young players. Othmann will get 9 games. I do not see them at least trying that. Is Kravtsov still around? Pajuniemi is older and could be a situation where you want to find out about the 23 year old since you have time for the 20 year old. Is Gauthier being tendered? Could be another guy that gets his last kick at the can here.

He'll need to outplay the bottom of the current lineup and the other young guys. On top of all of that, it'll need to be deemed more valuable for him to be in the NHL in a limited role or playing pro hockey and being on what will likely be a top 6 role for Hartford.

The way that he plays.

I don't think he needs to add things to his tool kit, it's going to be about utilizing his skill set in a way that he hasn't had to necessarily do so in Juniors. Kreider is a pretty good template to follow honestly, his money is going to be made in the trenches, not in sniping from 30 feet out.

If he can turn himself into a Marcus Foligno esque player, I'm thrilled with the outcome.

Marcus Foligno would be a coup from Cuylle honestly. He's such a useful player the way that he brings a physical element every night

I think Cuylle is going to have to re-invent his game quite a bit before becoming an NHL player.

Yeah, I think so too.

In the sense that to play in the NHL, he must be a player who is perfect across the board when it comes to providing a top effort every time he hits the ice, is super disciplined and aces all the small plays, really understand the pro NHL game and makes all the right decisions 24/7/365.

We can talk about how mature and smart a kid is — but facts are that someone like Cuylle must be expected to be a lot better in the above mentioned areas when he is 24 y/o compared to when he is 20 y/o. It just takes time. Kreider was mentioned above. Kreider is 10x as smart today compared to when he was 21 when he in all honestly was very lost on the ice. The NHL game isn’t easy. You get zero awards for paticipating. I remember when Kreider was a rookie, many argued along the lines of ‘he isn’t dumb, he learned Russian, hence he doesn’t have bad hockey sense’. Nobody is accusing a prospect at this level of being dumb. If we look at the best people in the world in a certain area, you rank below average at the NHL level if 50% of the best is at least slightly better than you. Kreiders hockey sense at 21 was way beyond average. That doesn’t mean that you accused him of being a Pejorative Slur.

I like Cuylle a lot. He (a) got a lot of strong physical tools and (b) he is — far — from being a stiff. The kid is a very very gifted young player. Stilll, it a a tough league for kids to play in and realistically I think he got some ways to go. Same thing for Othman. I am far from sold on that these guys instatnyly will be hits at the AHL level, just because it’s such a tough game for kids to play in.

To make it to the NHL Cuylle will break in on the bottom 6 and most probably the bottom line. Not every prospect has a shot at that but Cuylle’s size, strength, physical play and grit are all things that come in very handy for that. Other forward prospects we have just aren’t good fits for that and so they either have to beat out someone in the top 9 or they’re not going to make it at all. I expect Othmann and Berard have enough grit, untapped potential and the right mindset to break in like Cuylle but I have doubts about the rest of our forward prospects. Those are the three really good forward prospects we have that have enough talent but also the determination and versatility to be Rangers in the future.

Cuylle had 3A. He has 6-7-13 in 10 playoff games and is +15.

Othmann had an assist on the GTG (in the first period LOL). His game is going to OT.

Windsor (Cuylle) is up 3-1 in their series. Flint (Othmann) is up 2-1 pending this game. The teams would meet in the West Finals if they both advance.

Really hoping for a Cuylle vs Othmann conference finals. They always seem to bring out the best in each other during the season.

I think there are going to be many more moves and unless Cuylle and Othmann show up to camp out of shape, they have a legit shot at getting games in NY. I would be happier with them in HFD as long as HFD is competitive and has a f***ing clue about coaching and winning unlike this year.

Othmann can’t play AHL. It’s NHL or OHL.

Cuylle is going to top out as a 3rd line winger with some physicality to his game and that is perfectly fine.

I'd prefer that he start the year in Hartford and if he earns the call by mid-season, even better.

The biggest challenge for him is going to be the speed of the game and getting his reads and recognition up to NHL standards as he is not fleet of foot, those reads are going to be more important for him.

I would hope that he continues to develop the physical side of his game and be a bit more punishing when looking to eliminate the opposition.

It's understandable that some would want him to be an NHL'er right away as he has the size to handle himself against larger opponents not to mention he would be a cheap option at 850k, but bringing him to the main roster would be a mistake as you would set him up for failure.

Flint(Othmann) and Windsor[Cuylle] both lead 3-1, with upcoming games Sat, maybe Mon,
and possible game 7's either Tues[Windsor] or Wed[Flint]

FYI in Thursday's other prospect game, in the W,
Garand stopped 18 of 20 and Kamloops won 4-2, leads Vancouver 3-1

tonight, Friday, all 3 remaining NYR WHL prospects/series play
Kamloops[Garand] up 3-1 and can close out the series with games Fri, and maybe Sun, Tues
Moose Jaw[Korczak] trail 3-1 to Winnipeg, playing to stay alive, with games Fri, and maybe Sun, Tues
Seattle[Rempe] trail 2-1, but won last game, and that series has an accelerated closing schedule of Fri, Sat, then maybe Mon, Tues

My non-English background might be an issue but my understanding of "reinventing" his game is quite opposite of continuing to develop his existing skillset (that made him such a good 2nd round grab). Watered down or not - Cuylle showing in the AHL at the age of 19 speaks very positively about his game translating from juniors to pro's.

If he can replace a Hunt, Rooney, Ven, or Blais.

I be happy to have some who can handle themselves on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Yeah him and Othman to take some face offs..

I wrote a couple of times that I thought they might sign Lindbom, given that Georgiev, Kinkaid, Huska, and Wall are all possibly leaving. Even with Garand going pro, they're still pretty thin there. Lindbom showed he could mostly stay healthy for once, that helped him.
