I think Skjei goes at some point.

And if I had to pick between Fox and DeAngelo (similar players), I keep Fox. DeAngelo has more grit which is needed in this team , but Fox has amazing escapability and a better shot.

We have too many D with upside.

Keane
Jones
Robertson
Miller
Lundkvist

Fox
Hajek
Lindgren
Trouba
Skjei
Deangelo

Are we going to start making trades soon?

None of that first group has played in the NHL yet. They have a long way to go before we have to worry about moving anyone out.

Not anytime soon. Injuries will happen. Some will not develop as you believe right now. The Rangers should be so luck that they are in a position to deal from strength.

It’s just wayyy too early to even speculate between who will be better between Fox and DeAngelo. Both look like they have 2/3 potential. Frankly if they both hit it, i dont want either going anywhere.

let Lundvist and Miller battle it out for that #4 spot (trouba #1)

Thanks for the info on Lindbom. Hope he's not this brittle going forward. If Hank is done by the expansion draft, if they call up Shesterkin next year, would we be at risk to lose one of Georgiev or Shesterkin? That would suck. I think you can protect one goalie or another format with a certain number of players. Haven't looked at it in a while.

Shestyorkin exempt, Gerorgiev would be protected and Huska likely exposed.

Most 3rd round picks don't turn into anything, so it's hard to be disappointed by one unless they show some really good promise in North America first like Grachev did.

They’re always long shots, but even when they don’t pan out you’d like to see some sort of progression so you have your baseline evaluation somewhat validated.

But Ragnarsson is going backwards.

We'll get a lot more trade value out of a young defenseman who has proven he's a legit NHL player than a prospect who hasn't. Just saying. So yeah I see Skjei moving in the next year or two but it won't surprise me at all to see DeAngelo or even one of Hajek or Lindgren moving along too when the next round of D are NHL ready to move up. I expect the Rangers to bring in one or two rookie defensemen every year for the next two-three-four years. If and when Miller and Lundkvist sign I expect they'll be on a short track to the NHL. We'll have to move players probably to accommodate that. One thing I can't really see is having two or three NHL ready defensemen sitting in the AHL at any given time. Young guys need to get their shot when they're ready for it or at least in a reasonable frame of time.

I don't know if I see regression with Ragnarsson. Maybe stagnation, but not regression.

Sjalin is a guy who seems to be getting actively worse, which is super disappointing since I really thought the only thing holding him back was health and he has been healthy this year.

He's also had to play out his young career under the stigma of being vouched for by poster PB. It's a wonder he never retired immediately following the draft.

I really hope that if Lindbom makes the NHL some day that he goes with Jim Carey's Count Olaf on his helmet.

Soon? Eh, depends on what's out there. I don't think they'll be shopping anyone in the immediate future, but you never know who becomes available and the cost.

Eventually they'll make moves, but it will likely come after they have a better idea of how guys are shaping up. If ADA takes the next step this season, and they re-sign him, then the odds off someone like Keane and Lundkvist being moved increases. They won't be moved for the sake of moving them, but rather they'll be available for the right player who fills another need.

On the left side, I think things are a bit further out. Staal is entering the twilight of his time with the Rangers, and Skjei's long-term future is cloudy.

Hajek and Lindgren show promise, but I'm not sure they've quite that same level of being 0ff-limit that some guys on the right side are reaching.

Miller, I suspect, might still be another 18 months off. Robertson and Jones are also further out on the horizon.

If you're looking at how could be used as a trade component sooner, the most likely candidates would be Keane and Lundkvist. But I wouldn't take that to mean they have one foot out the door.

With prospects and young players, situations can change very quickly.

What's going on with rykov? Does anyone know when he is going to be healthy? He is a guy who I am very intrigued by. Think he will be a good 2nd pair guy that can play physical. Just thinking that the only way he will get to see the nhl in the near future would be due to injuries.

He sprained his ankle, and those generally take a while for guys to come back from

Of the 5 prospects in that group, plus Reuanen, Rykov, Skinner, and Gross... making 9... how many NHL players are we really going to get? 2? 3? 4? I don't think it'll be more than 4 and the smart money would be on 2. Upside is great and all, but most players don't reach their potential.

Agreed. I think if Trouba were 28 or 29, and coming up on being an UFA, it's something the Rangers would definitely entertain.

But teams don't typically trade 25 year old defenseman, whom they just acquired and signed to a long-term deal, to hold onto prospects who don't project to have the same level of upside.

Especially when there's this much of an age gap at work. Even if the Rangers had someone who projected as a 40-50 point defenseman who plays 24+ minutes a night, it would still take them at least several years to even work their way into that conversation.

Gross and Keane would be the two guys I would happily move while their value is high (assuming they continue their trajectory further into the season). Neither will have much value on their own, but could be attractive additions to larger deals. Gross in particular I'd sell high on.

I agree with you. My point was we should identify the ones most likely to make it and try to trade some of the others while they have value.

Keane is someone that could be moved and I think a team would value him. Producing in the AHL and is a right handed shot. If he's not destined to be on the Rangers, another team would like his value. I wouldn't move him because while we have tons of defense in the pipe, we don't have tons of RHD. He could absolutely marinate in the AHL for another full year after this and still hold his value.

Gross is most likely not. He's not under contract currently. His play last year wasn't inspiring and now as an overager is doing okay.

I'd honestly be shocked if he even gets offered an ELC at this point. Maybe he could get a pick back in return if a team wants to sign him instead of risk him signing somewhere else when his rights expire. Otherwise, there probably isn't much there.
