Thanks for posting... love the draft videos. I wish they did more, but I get that they don’t want to put too much out there.

I get that, but we can't expect everyone of our gazillion prospects to put up amazing numbers. The more prospects you have, the bigger the chances there are some duds.
Obviously, and I’ve been around long enough that I don’t expect every player to make it. Two NHL players out of a draft is generally great. I just feel like our European drafting in particular lately has been lacking. You draft a Jan Marek or a Nigel Dawes and they don’t have a significant or any NHL career, but they go on to become great pros elsewhere then you feel like you picked a good player who just didn’t make it for whatever reason. When you see guys struggling mightily in a D+1 or D+2 year then I think you have to begin asking questions. I generally think that the Rangers are better than average at drafting, but you can always get better.
That 3rd round in 2013, we knocked it out of the park
Buchnevich and Duclair are NHL contributors while Tambellini, for all his flaws is having a respectable career in the 3rd best league in the world.
It all depends on how you look at it.
Marek Židlický never played a game for us but damn, was he a good draft pick in the 6th round.
Berard and Skinner make Team USA’s final roster for the WJC.
Yeah not to revel in anyone missing out due to Covid, but that sure benefitted the Rangers here. Skinner was definitely out and Berard was a big long shot originally.

Team USA is obviously considering our positional needs with playing Berard at center and Skinner at LD. Probably as reward for colluding to keep Lafreniere out of the tournament.1st line C, Zegras 13th forward

Yeah hopefully he can keep it up, unlike Ciccolini who scored 2 in his first 2 and has now gone without a point in six straight (with a healthy scratch in there, too).Hughes had a pretty disappointing freshman year so nice to see him off to a good start. He looks bigger than I thought he was.
on the subject of our forward group, aside from the elite prospects, it is pretty underwhelming to see what makes up the rest of our pool. vierling and berard offer some excitement/hope. not sure what the aversion is but we've really avoided the high risk high reward prospects. i'm not a proponent of just drafting for home runs in later rounds, or taking the youtube celebrity skillset picks who often have no actual hockey iq...but i do wish we'd be a little more aggressive in adding some more speed/skill as the draft goes along. we've taken a few monsters i have no hope in. some lunchpail guys that don't seem to offer much projection as anything. i know we place a high priority on character and that's on net a good thing. but i wish we'd try to find a bit more speed and tenacity in going that route. seems like our lunchpail guys are more average at everything hard workers at the junior level and thats not a great recipe for nhl upside. we're pretty set in the top 6 for a while looking forward, but it would be really nice to have pieces like an arvidsson, ryan hartman, konecny, coleman, gourde, hagelin etc...i know that list runs a range of where drafted and level of player they became but the point is more we could really use a buzzsaw guy or two that really add some pace and pestiness to a line for the bottom 6. and maybe you luck out and stumble into a marchand or brayden point. aside from finding a longer term solution for 2c and buying time for the bigger d prospects to arrive, a big missing element is a guy with really disruptive speed as a bit of a changeup and a compliment to more deliberate elements of the 3rd/4th line, something we haven't had since hagelin was moved. and then once in a while it would be nice to see us roll the dice on a home run or bust pick. seems like we value getting echl/ahl floors with slim nhl potential over players who may not make it as a pro if they don't boom...i get the asset valuation piece to an extent, but cmon take a big swing once in a while...building out hartford through the draft seems like as much of a waste as missing totally on a few picks, and it pays off 100fold if you stumble across the next datsyuk

Fellows, I wouldn't get too excited...the list is alphabetical.Team USA is obviously considering our positional needs with playing Berard at center and Skinner at LD. Probably as reward for colluding to keep Lafreniere out of the tournament.
