Wow, the Canucks this season scored less goals than the Rangers and allowed more goals than the Rangers. Their fenclose rating at ES is much worse than the Rangers too.

How the heck did they win the division?

But the Canucks brahdude was much better than the Rangers manbro.

I know AV don't have a cup, but when ur goalies give up 23!!! Goals in a playoff series (21 by your #1 goalie) what can u expect other than a loss?

Agreed, but don't tell most Canucks fans, they'll blame it on anyone but Luongo. When your team is playing bad your goalie needs to keep it close and Lu just can't.

Also as I said before, Vancouver seemed to create plenty of offensive chances in that series, they simply couldn't finish (a combination of their lack of forward depth/Thomas being incredible). Luongo giving up beach balls wasn't helping their confidence, for sure.

Rangers can't get it done in the playoffs! Can't score! "You're only successful when you raise the Cup!" -Glen Sather

Hire a coach whose hallmark is great regular season play marred by playoff choke jobs. Whose teams have consistently been criticized for not showing up when it matters.

Then there are comments about what AV "got out of the Canucks roster". Lines 2-4 might be average but Vancouver has two players that are/were HEAD AND SHOULDERS above anything on the NYR roster. The "system" for the Sedins was "go play". Those two players alone account for 20 min + spent in the opposing end creating chances.

Valid points.
The name doesn't impress as much as how he will use his current roster.
A coach should adapt, let's see if AV will.

I understand what you're saying and agree to some degree, but it's also ridiculous to simplify it as, "they let in a lot of goals so it's the goalie's fault." Tactics, handling of players, and development all play a role in that, and all to some degree have the head coach's fingerprints on it.

That's in 1 playoff run, what happened to the others? Some are first rd exists by a supposedly better roster than the Rangers currently have.

Except Luongo was the reason the Nucks won 3 games... The offense scored 3 goals once, 2 goals once, 1 goal twice and got shutout twice. The series would have never gone to 7 without Luongo. Now I'm not saying that he had no fault, but if you want to blame someone...

Most of the time other factors do play a hand in it but let's be real Lu couldn't stop a beach ball that series against Boston

The games he lost weren't even close iirc. Something like 8-1, 5-2, 4-0

He's not without his faults but for all of the seemingly endless criticism of Vigneault's coaching in the Vancouver market, there should be no question that he's among the best head coaches in the National Hockey League (right up there with the likes of Quenneville, MacLean, Babcock, Bourdreau and Tippett).

I like the sound of that

The whole "line matching" thing intrigues me greatly...I wonder if we see a jump in production for Stepan/Nash.

They lacked secondary scoring as we do as well as again having a goalie who can get it done.. luongo in the playoffs was under 2 one year the rest were 2.5 or over 3!!

I am going to keep my fingers crossed then. I won't uncross them until Sather is gone.

He has his good games, but when the team needed him to perform, he had a meltdown. As a goalie you have to give your team a chance to win, and he didn't do that mos nights.

It wasn't all Luongo, but he does deserve a good amount of blame

So can't that be said for the forwards as well? The most they gave him was 3 goals once and 2 once which is not much. Luongo gave them 2 shutouts in both games where they scored one goal. IMO It's a lot more believable to win a series by allowing 23 goals in 7 games than scoring 8 goals in 7...

What team is gonna win a stanley cup when their starting goalie allows almost 3 goals or more?
