How did he almost ruin him? (Serious)

Cody Hodgson did not play hurt during his failed bid to make the Vancouver Canucks and may be trying to blame a summer back injury for his disappointing training camp-- AV

Doctors cleared him to play maybe missed something, AV didn't believe Cody because the medical staff said he was good to go, turns out there was something the staff missed I believe, my memory is fuzzy there so you can google the proper facts, thats the just of it though.

However, I liked AV and was sad that his time in Vancouver was over, that's not to say I didn't agree because I do but I most certainly don't hate the guy, he and Luongo came in together and did fantastic things for the team while they were here, I remember before those two showed up and I am very great full for their hard work.

Hes a good coach with a personality I quite liked. I hope he does well.

Does anyone have a list of assistant coaches during AV's career and if any of them are available?

I'm wondering if the Rangers would leave it up to him to find his staff or make some recommendations

It's always going to be a joint decision. With so much rumbling irt coaching within the organization, in the league, AV is presumably going to get to put his choices but I'd reckon Slats is going to want to address the franchise's needs as well as the team's needs with his familiarity AND address AV's weaknesses.

you'd be surprised; it was reported Management advised AV to not play Bieksa more than 25 minutes a game, which he did anyways, so if you could send back a RHD+ it may be possible :P

Could see Stralman+ being moved for Bieksa.

id love Bieksa but i doubt Nucks move him..

would love to move him. Damn that NTC. I'm not a fan, he's far too inconsistent and has been riding his 2011 reputation for far to long.

I look at Vancouver's roster and see so many players who came up and/or became established NHLers under Vigneault. Kesler. Burrows. Hansen. Raymond. Edler. Tanev. Bieksa. Schneider. Even Hodgson before he was traded. Frank Corrado came up and played in all 4 playoff games this spring. Its all about Kassian and Schroeder. Where did the other players come from? You know Sather and the rest of the front office discussed everything with Vigneault. Gillis took a shot at Vigneault about needing to play more young players. VAN has done such a piss poor job in scouting and drafting players. That's on Gillis and his scouts. Where are the young players in their system? Look at that roster.

A lot of truth in this post, we don't have a lot of NHL ready prospects. Another player that came up recently was Chis Tanev. AV has his favorites, but so do most coaches. If the rookie/young player performs he will get ice time, they have a short leash, but a lot of time that is for the best.

People point to Schroeder and Kassian, but when JS was sent down he responded great and produced at over a point per game and would have been back if not for his injury. Kassian also had some injury issues this year and had trouble playing a ton of minutes.

Just back and glad to see the good news on Vigneault. Get it done, let him find and gather his staff. Then the Rangers can prepare and go into the draft with a concise plan, take it through July 5th. Its going to be an interesting month or so coming. Training camp will also be very interesting.

To expand upon my earlier post, Newell Brown was in charge of the Powerplay. The Canucks had the 22nd ranked powerplay (the Rangers 23rd).

Interesting quote from Brown regarding the large amount of lefties on their powerplay:

Upfront, the only notable righties are Callahan and Stepan, and on defense, Girardi and Stralman. Ranger fans bemoaned Girardi's presence on the powerplay, but with the lack of any righthand shot, it was based on necessity (unless you enjoyed watching Richards circle the wrong direction towards the boards - over and over again).

Except Girardi didn't play on his off side so handedness didn't matter - we still couldn't taken one timers.

Bieksa has a $4.6M cap hit for the next 3 years. The Rangers have their cap issues to deal with in the next 13 months.

Question for those who remember: Did Torts ever speak to Dolan in a formal capacity before the hiring?

The Canuck doctors misdiagnosed Hodgson's back injury.

Bingo, and I don't remember AV's comments being as bad as a lot of people have said. I remember thinking that the comments were blown out of proportion (cause Van media has never font that before :))
