Confirmed with Link: Rangers Name Alain Vigneault Head Coach

Messier as an assistant could also be a train wreck. What happens if we get off to a slow start with AV? Will people be clamoring for Messier?
 
At this point I just want someone, anyone, to take Sullys place. Mostly because right now he still has it and I won't feel safe until he doesnt.
 
Not the worst choice and not the best, I'm 50-50 on it.

Handling young players on a cap strapped team is going to be what makes or breaks him here. But as all humans, hopefully he can learn from his experiences in Vancouver.


Also, can he bring Mason Raymond here? :yo:

I agree, I think you need to start fresh, especially considering he "ran" the PP, or whatever you want to call what he did.

Let AV bring in TWO assistants, TWO
 
I look at Vancouver's roster and see so many players who came up and/or became established NHLers under Vigneault. Kesler. Burrows. Hansen. Raymond. Edler. Tanev. Bieksa. Schneider. Even Hodgson before he was traded. Frank Corrado came up and played in all 4 playoff games this spring. Its all about Kassian and Schroeder. Where did the other players come from? You know Sather and the rest of the front office discussed everything with Vigneault. Gillis took a shot at Vigneault about needing to play more young players. VAN has done such a piss poor job in scouting and drafting players. That's on Gillis and his scouts. Where are the young players in their system? Look at that roster.

I'm wondering if the Rangers would leave it up to him to find his staff or make some recommendations

Cody hodgson is another situation where AV nearly ruined that kid, sure he was a dick but still.

For 2012-3, the associate coaches were Newell Brown and Rick Bowness. Rick Bowness has already signed w/ Tampa.
 
I heard that one condition of AV was the Rangers getting Aaron Rome. So if we wake up tomorrow and see that Rome has been traded to the Rangers, we know something's up.

If we got Rome, Boyle and Richards (if not bought out) would end up like the toddler who feels neglected cuz his parents had another baby

To expand upon my earlier post, Newell Brown was in charge of the Powerplay. The Canucks had the 22nd ranked powerplay (the Rangers 23rd).

Interesting quote from Brown regarding the large amount of lefties on their powerplay:

“When you're trying to run a power play with five left shots, which we were forced to do a lot this year, you're really swimming upstream. Seventy-seven per cent of the power-play goals are scored with at least two right shots, so that tells you a lot right there. Not to say there are exceptions to the rule, but when you have five left shots, or even four, your chances of scoring are diminished.

“Teams are so fast to get into the shot lanes these days,†Brown continued, “that if you can't take one-timers, if you aren't in position to take one-touch passes and move the puck quickly to shooters and shoot off the pass, you're at a big disadvantage. That was something we were dealing with this year.â€

Upfront, the only notable righties are Callahan and Stepan, and on defense, Girardi and Stralman. Ranger fans bemoaned Girardi's presence on the powerplay, but with the lack of any righthand shot, it was based on necessity (unless you enjoyed watching Richards circle the wrong direction towards the boards - over and over again).
