@aaronward_nhl: Alain Vigneault has indicated to the Dallas Stars that he no longer wants to be considered for the head coaching position there. #TSN

Looks like it's AV.

Hard to believe he would take himself out of the running in Dallas if he didn't have a deal with the Rangers.

AV huh?

I am not all that excited but considering the short list of people I wasn't expecting to be blown away.

I honestly don't know that much of AV's coaching strategy but it does concern me that his team has been swept twice in a row now.

A poster who has a good track record with inside information on the Dallas board had this to stay earlier:

AV was the guy we've been pushing for. Hes been waiting on the Rangers though and theyve been back and forth. Seems he'd rather be coaching them anyways if he's waiting on them. Hearing today is a decision day for them.

This information fits the bill.

Messier did address the experience factor in the interview on NHL Network. He basically said he doesn't have it, but growing up with a father as a coach, and relying on his experience as a captain and mentoring ability, he feels he has the confidence to become a good coach.

I respect the fact that he added at the end, that one never knows exactly how they'll be until they are actually thrown into the fire of a real season. So he basically is admitting there will be an adjustment period, (most likely a significant one IMO) and Rangers fans are supposed to be happy about this? We have a core and a goalie on this team that is in win-now mode.

So how can management honestly justify hiring a rookie coach after just stating that the goal is the cup, and firing a coach with more experience in his pinky toe then Messier.

I told them not to hire AV. They went and did it anyway.

1000x better than Messier.

BTW, I was watching highlights from the Canucks/Boston final...Vancouver didn't have any shortage of offensive chances. Thomas was absolutely incredible and they have two finishers on their team (one of them Kesler, who was playing with an injured shoulder IIRC). The Rangers have more depth up front than Vancouver did.

AV is a good coach. Maybe a new environment will help him

If Rangers can snag AV he can really help the franchise

I think when Messier talked to the press today it was a last ditch effort to gain public support for the job.

I have no doubt sometime this summer Messier leaves the Rangers organization. He probably goes to Edmonton to work as Assistant GM. He can wait for either Eakins to get fired as coach or MacTavish to get fired as GM. No way Messier's ego can take getting passed over for the Rangers job.

He has public support already. Most dumb Ranger fans will think "Mark MESSIER? He'd be a great coach!".

Seems like Sather is not dumb enough to make that mistake. Messier can have all the public support he wants but when it comes down to it he has zero experience.
