AV coach, you think mess and/or leetch will be assistant or Av brings his own peeps in?
AV should be given that choice. If Messier and Leetch are forced on him...ugh.

That said, I'd rather Messier/Leetch be forced into the asst role than have Messier be the head coach. lol.

Messier would be better than Gernander. That's about all I can think of.

But this is based on what? As far as I'm concerned, Leetch is just as unqualified as Messier.

Leetch comes across as more cerebral than Messier. You can also tell that he has a pretty amazing feel for the game from an intellectual standpoint when you watch his analyses.

Leetch talks about the game in it's entirety and is more cerebral when actually giving some feedback. His intelligence for the game is higher than Mess's. He comes off as intellectual about the game.

Update to Leonard's article:

"Hearing of Messier’s interview, an anonymous Rangers player told the Daily News via text message that while he does not want to say he prefers a specific candidate, Messier undoubtedly has admirable qualities.

“I try not to get the point of hoping for anyone in particular,†the player wrote. “But he (Messier) has proven that he’s a man that can lead men to do great things. And there is a wealth of knowledge and experience that he has.â€
The players forced John Tortorella’s firing. Support for Messier can’t hurt the chances of his hiring."

Great great player. One of the best I've ever seen. Silky smooth.

But he has the charisma of a piece of wood. More importantly, Im not so sure what he did is teachable to anyone.

Alain Vigneault, one of the top candidates for the Rangers' head coaching job, was in New York on Friday, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

With the whole Rangers front office en route to the East Coast from California, it's believed Vigneault was in New York to meet with team owner James Dolan.

A team spokesperson and spokesperson for Dolan declined to comment when reached via email Friday night.

Vigneault met with the Rangers earlier this week in La Quinta, Calif., during the team's organizational meetings and made a strong case for himself to succeed the recently dismissed John Tortorella.

I'd love to hear what was said when he met ownership.

Ownership: " So, I hear ya know a bit about that game called hockey?"

AV: "Yes, I do."

Jimmy Dolan: You like JD & The Straight Shot?

Alain Vigneault: Sorry?

Jimmy Dolan: JD & The Straight Shot. You a fan?

Alain Vigneault: I.....uh...ah...um...

Jimmy Dolan *Silent slow head shake*

I"m like 99% sure that Pat Leonard is driving the entire "Messier for head coach" bandwagon and if not making ******** up to support that, is being played by people whoa re laughing at him behind their backs

Dude is so desperate to make stories happen

Sather in California...Jimmy D in NY?

The sun never sets on the Ranger empire.

That was probably the better conversation.

Jimmy Dolan: Glen, where are you?

Glen Sather: In Palm Springs. Organizational meetings.

Jimme Dolan: I'm part of the organization. Why didn't you tell me.

Glen Sather: I did, I mean I was, I mean I meant to.

Jimmy Dolan: OK, I can be there in 12 hours.

Glen Sather: No, don't worry.

Jimmy Dolan: It's no worry

Glen Sather: Hey Jim, I hid some Isaiah Thomas memorabilia somewhere in 2 Penn Plaza

Sound Effect: Loud thud.

Glen Sather: Jim? Hello?

And.....scene.

Dolan probably thinks Vigneault is interviewing for a position with the Knicks.

"Hey, you speak French! Think you can steal that Tony Parker guy away from the Spurs?"

Exactly. He's a generational player. His vision and anticipation are off the charts. You can't teach that. Look at this famous play from 1994 where he almost scores, and it turns into the Bure penalty shot. (at 0:15)

If I recall correctly, aren't the X's and O's and the assignment-type stuff what almost got Leetch shipped outta here for Chelios?

This team needs a guy that will allow them to play to their strengths. I loved the Black n' Blueshirts and sometimes the shot-blocking and defense was incredibly exciting stuff to watch. Game 6 against Wash. this year is a perfect example. But I never understood why they were so afraid of shots getting through to Hank or letting up an odd man rush. You have the best goalie on the planet! Get the damn defense involved. And I don't mean that McD can rush up the ice when Callahan covers his spot. I mean JOIN THE DAMN ATTACK WITH CALLAHAN!

Well, to lure Parker to NY, you have to speak Dutch, since he grew up in Holland ;)

His dad played basketball in Leiden and Tony, together with his brothers, lived in both Leiden and Haarlem, before moving to France as a teenager

That was threats to have him clean it up. But he still has great knowledge. Some of which can be shared. That's just what I think. Queue everyone saying I'm wrong

"Yes, of course," Messier told NHL.com when asked Friday at United Center if he has formally interviewed with Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather. "That was one thing I wanted to have happen, to go through the process like everybody else and to experience that, and to give Glen the opportunity to make a decision that he feels comfortable with."

Too bad Messier doesn't feel the same way about actually COACHING PROFESSIONALLY. To go through the process like everybody else before taking a job he is severely under qualified for.

“We were out in La Quinta, (California), and I had a chance to talk with Glen on a couple of occasions,” Messier told the Daily News outside the United Center on Friday. “I expressed my interest and my confidence in my ability, and from there that’s all I can really say because I don’t know much more than that, because he’s conducting interviews with many more people that obviously want the job, as well. So he’s going through the process, which he should.”

Confidence in his ability? Where is this confidence coming from, his playing experience?! He makes it seem here like its a foregone conclusion he'll get the job... Slats is going through the "process, which he should"?? You think? Are you kidding me Mess?

Even if they go with AV (they better do it quickly), This whole thing is rubbing me the wrong way and Messier has already tarnished his reputation with the Rangers. You've done enough here, there's not much more you can do. Please don't ruin it.
