Canucks fan coming here. I think AV is a great coach and you guys will see success with him. Only issue I ever had with him was his trouble with developing the younger kids. With a good veteran group, I could see the Rangers making the playoffs and making quite a bit of noise.

I'm not really sad to see AV go as it was evident this room needed a change. He also believes in leaving the room to the players philosophy. It was evident that he let the players take charge especially with a strong leadership group. He also had trouble adapting to the physical style the West has developed over the past 2 years which may or may not be an issue in the East depending on who you guys draw should you make the playoffs. He's extremely smart with how he starts his players. I think Nash can benefit from that.

I think he's the best coach on the market over Ruff that's for sure. Best of luck to him and hopefully he'll end up in NY!

I have my concerns about AV, but he's a far better option than Messier. I just hope that Messier isn't forced upon AV as an assistant coach.

I was intrigued by Stevens and was hoping he would at least get an interview, but oh well...

Vigneault (ill have to get used to spelling that) has over 25 years of coaching experience, has won a Jack Adams and is yearning for a Cup.

Sather went 180 from Renney to Torts in demeanor, and it'll be another 180 going from Torts to AV, specifically considering media relations. But I think AV has a nice mix of characteristics that will work here. Hopefully he institutes the right system for this team and I welcome him as the new Rangers coach.

Tippett was still the best option IMO, but they couldn't wait and hell prob stick around in the Yotes franchise anyway, so I'll take the second best option, which is miles ahead of some of the other candidates namely Messier.

Like I said before, AV is a great coach, his positive highly outweighs his negatives, but his two negatives is he SITS on leads big time, and that he is very bad with young players, he refuses 2 play them, and when he DOES, if the player makes ONE SMALL MISTAKE, he will sit not for a game, but for a week.

Zack kassian had 5 goals in 7 games with the sedins to start the year, he had ONE bad game in the 8th game, and then played on the 2nd line, then 3 more bad games out of 7 and he was a fourth liner for awhile.

well hopefully if hired, Sather will tell him what he thinks about that.. Rangers have alot of young talent (Miller, Kreider, Mcondagh, etc) and they have more coming in Lindberg, Fasth, etc, he can't be like Torts was in that regard.

@TheFourthPeriod
With Vigneault likely taking over as NYR coach, whispers out there that Messier could join staff as assistant. We'll see how it plays out.

Mess going to come in and take over after AV sets up the team nicely? lmao

Well there goes Kreider's career

It will be interesting to see who he plays favorites with. A lot of young players on the Rangers, with more coming.

I think one positive about AV is he did a tremendous job in the West, a conference that pound for pound was a lot stronger than the East for a lot of years. I think the East has caught up, but his experience against teams like Detroit and Columbus might be a slight advantage for the Rangers next year, considering most coaches in the East haven't seen a whole lot of them.

I think the young player thing is BS, frankly. People have said the same thing about Torts. These isolated incidents get overblown and become all-around stereotypes, like Torts with Kreider.

What about Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Bieksa, Raymond, and Schneider? Hell, the Sedins had the best years of their career under AV.

While team won't comment, sure sounds like Alain Vigneault discussions to be NYR Coach are heating up.Talks have be taken to a high level.

The Rangers have zoned in on Alain Vigneault as their next coach, a well-placed league source told The Post Friday night.

Vigneault, who brought the Canucks within one victory of the Stanley Cup in 2011, is believed to have met with Garden owner Jim Dolan yesterday, even as Mark Messier confirmed his candidacy to succeed John Tortorella behind the Blueshirts’ bench.

The Blueshirts had not yet presented an offer to Vigneault, who impressed president/general manager Glen Sather in their meeting on Tuesday at La Quinta, Calif., as The Post reported.

But a contract proposal is expected to be forthcoming, what with Vigneault last night withdrawing his candidacy to coach the Stars, who had been keenly interested in hiring him.
