this game was far more entertaining than I expected. can you imagine what level of hockey we might see in really meaningful games at Olympics?

and one more thing. all this talk about McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov is all and good but Crosby is still one of the best if not the best when it comes to hockey. sad thing that I hate him with passion :)

Was an awesome game. It's criminal that we've been robbed of gimmick-free, true best-on-best international hockey for 11 years. Can't wait for the game Saturday night

I've seen a number of people say Crosby should be considered 3rd greatest all time over Gordie.

I just could not disagree more.
Agree with you 100%. It pains us all as Wings fans to admit that 87 is great. That said, I don't hate on him all that much anymore compared to 2008 - 2015 or so. It helps that Marchand and Lucic are much bigger d-bags, but I digress.
There is no denying talent, but 3rd best of all time? He is the 3rd best of all time... Pittsburgh Penguin that is.

It's fun to watch a game cheering for guys you otherwise hate or scare you in the regular season. It was a terrific game by both teams and easier to appreciate all of the players, including and maybe especially Crosby, without the extra emotional attachment of wanting your favorite team to win.

He's a lot less whiney now and the league isn't trying to cram him down everyone's throat as much. I don't think anyone can deny him being an all time great player; he was just annoying as an 18-25 year old. I honestly think a lot of non wings fans probably felt similarly about Yzerman to some degree during his early playing days. The refs around the league definitely called him a whiner.

The distaste for Crosby is based 100% out on jealously and nothing more...

The guy is an incredible talent and is the definition of what a superstar proathlete is supposed to be..he's been amazing for the game

To clarify, I have no ill will toward Crosby. He's a great ambassador, a great player, and a great human. '09 was a lifetime ago, and I'm still more mad at the league and officiating for the outcome of that series.

But I do not see him jumping Gordie for a spot in the top 3 all time. Top 5 definitely, possibly 4. But the top three of 9/99/66 will never change (in my opinion)

I agree that Crosby is one of the all time greats. Perhaps better than Howe. Trouble is very few people today even saw Howe play in his prime. A bit unfair to Gordie coming from a HoweFan. Lol

Bobby Orr is ahead of Lemieux.

If you're ranking them on the basis of how dominant they were in their own time period, then Gordie still ranks 3rd for me behind Wayne and Mario.

But, if Connor McDavid, with the skill he has today played in Gordie or Wayne's eras, he'd be scoring 100 goals a year in the NHL.

Great player, but do people really arguing for him to be #3?

Maybe, you can argue to place him next to Howe I wouldn't agree but would entertain the argument, but there is no way he is better than Bobby Orr.

To me Gretzky and Orr are the 2 best because they literally changed how the game was played.

I put Hasek at 5 so honestly Crosby's health issues really kept him from ever achieving that for me.

McDavid has a chance, he is the first player since Lindros (injuries got him in a more profound way than Crosby) that threatens Mount Rushmore.

Gordie was farther ahead of his peers, than Sidney is ahead of his. Simple as that.

You can't really evaluate them any other way than to analyze how much better they were than anyone else when they played.

I mean, guys today are way, way more talented and athletic than any of the top 3 guys. There's no comparison at all in history to Connor McDavid, then perhaps some of his own peers. But even then, Connor can do things that no one has ever seen. The ability to think and make plays at incredible speed has never been seen.

Sid ranks with guys like Yzerman, Messier and Sakic ... great leaders, great scorers, but not in Gordie, Wayne's or Mario's caliber.

If i need a goal, I'd want Mario. If I need someone to set up the play, it would be Wayne. If I needed a guy to bulldoze the entire other team to get the puck to Wayne, it would be Gordie.

Why do so many of the greats get stuck in Pittsburgh and Edmonton for their entire careers? Would have been nice to see Mario in a Habs jersey or Sid in a Leafs jersey, even though I hate both teams.

Gordie in any other jersey than the winged wheel is just not right.

You might have to rank Bobby Orr ahead of all but the top 3 if he hadn't had to quit so young. Orr then, is like McDavid now.
